How does it stack up to Heroine's Quest?
earlier this year a team released the (free) Heroine's Quest, a similar adventure/RPG in the style of QFG 1-4. How does this one compare, anyone tried it yet?

They are both really good spiritual successors of Quest for Glory series. The thing is, Heroine's Quest is free and Quest for Infamy 20 USD(15 if you prepurchased). However, while Quest for Infamy only took ~2 years to complete, Heroine's Quest took over 8 years to complete. I for one am willing to pay a small amount of money to get a good game more than 6 years earlier. :)

It's obviously superior since you play as a badass alpha rogue and not some heroine.

Price means nothing, I'm simply wondering if it stacks up. Heroine's Quest was a very good spiritual successor/`tribute.

I agree - HQ was on par with QfG 1 and definitly better than let's say QfG 3 tbh. As for Infamy, I am installing it as we speak. :D: However, the only thing I think is already better, are the voices. Or actually, the lack of 'audio normalisation' in this game. That's the ONLY thing I can think of beforehand, that was actually done better in HQ, if I compare it even with the recent Infamy trailer.

Well I've played it for quite a while already and I can guarantee if 20 dollars isn't huge money for you, you should consider buying it. The developers themselves are passionate about oldschool point'n'click games and they were open throughout the whole progress of making the game.

I would say Quest For Infamy is an overall larger game as the game features over 200 screens to explore and even an optional dungeon. As far as Adventure games go, Quest For Infamy is quite massive if you want to venture off the beaten path and explore its world.

Well, I can say that Fizzii (Elissa) worked on Quest For Infamy and Heroine's Quest, and she did a lot of hard work for both. I like both games, personally, and I think it's great to see that they're out there.

Well that sounds great. I loved Heroine's Quest because it felt so like QFG while being great in its own right, so your game sounds like it's just the ticket, too.

I'll add this to my wishlist and check back after the summer, the little I saw from your video and screenshots took me back in time. :)

I've beaten both games. I think Quest for Infamy is better overall, but there's specific things the other does better than the other.

Heroine's Quest pros:
- Lets you start the main game faster. QFI feels a bit forced for the first few days of ingame time.
- The RPG elements are better. Stats matter more, combat is better, and the element of coldness works well.
- Both games suffer from this, but Heroine's Quest has less bugs than QFI.
- Less puzzles which require you to do things in a specific order. QFI suffer from this quite a bit.
- Class system feel more freeform. You can mix and match more, while QFI is more strict.

Quest for Infamy pros:
- Better character design. Especially better main character who actually has a distinct personality.
- Better music, better graphics, a bigger world to explore, better voice acting. Production values overall seem a bit more professional than Heroine's Quest.

Anyway, if you enjoyed Heroine's Quest I think it's likely you'll enjoy QFI too, just be prepared for an experience which is a little rough around the edges.

Thanks, that was very comprehensive!

In my own opinion, I liked Heroine Quest better. On one hand, Quest for Infamy is huge in terms of locations and better graphics and even character depth -- it felt more epic -- but at the same time it also felt more empty and simple in terms of gameplay and puzzles (especially simple puzzles which had two or three different, yet all still simple, solutions).

Heroine's quest on the other hand felt like it was deep and complex in terms of mechanics and solutions. It may have had it's own fault (Like super long conversations..), but those faults were less of an issue for me.

That said, I still like them both. I'm glad I purchased this game, and I would definitely purchase a sequel.

I prefer Quest for Infamy to Heroine´s Quest: I admit that the combat in QfI gets too easy once you can buy the chain mail armor and figure out the blocking allows you to heal with no risk of taking damage anymore. On the other hand, I hated the HQ combat with a vengeance - having to learn the correct counter-defenses for each move of every monster you faced was no fun for me at all. And I hated the cold-and-hungry mechanism - I didn´t like feeling forced to cross lots of empty screens just to return to town and get some warmth. And mainly, the whole viking-ragnarok-is-coming-setting didn´t really fit the easygoing old QFG style, to my mind. The warrior was ok, but the thief and sorceress felt somehow inappropriate when facing giants, valkyries, norse gods and the like. Ymmv, of course.

And this is where QfI shines - your "hero" is a fully fleshed character in the mold of harry flashman of the flashman novels. Whether you play a "brigand", a rogue or a sorcerer, being allowed to play the role of the badass villain-in-training instead of the goody-two-shoes-hero for once is great fun and fits the setting. Some of the cynical comments Roehm offers are priceless, and most of the other npcs have similarly great lines.

The voice-acting is better than the one of HQ by far, the graphics are roughly the same level, but there´s simply "more" graphic in QfI - except for the mines, there´s no reuse of landscape-screens.

Gameplay-wise, I think QfI in general is easier than HQ. There´s often more than one solution to a given puzzle, you can find in-game-hints to just about every puzzle, money is easy to come by and, as I said before, combat is simple and comes with a I-win-button AND early in the game you´ll find a map which basically allows you to teleport to key screens from which you can reach every other place in a short walk, so you don´t have to cross empy screens

After having completed both i must say that HQ is the better for me. It may not have the production value of Qfi but that is secondary. The graphics are still very charming and the voices are good too. HQ feels like a QFG game from beginning to the end. The puzzles are way more complex and it felt a lot longer than Qfi, which to me feels rushed at the end.

Also:
Way more skills (that actually matter) and the combat is so much better than that of Qfi, Its not even funny.
It feels lively, people tending to their business during the day and are wandering around etc.

Heroines quest has much better rpg elements. I also feel like they kind of botched magic in QFI.. not being able to target things is a drag, as is simplifying no mana. The unlock spell sometimes uses your thievery stat as a bug. And if theres multiple things youd like to try unlocking in a room the spell kind of just decides whats going.
HQ feels like an extremely well balanced qfg game from start to finish.
