Another AMAZING game from the best Bullet Hell developers >w< After beating the game on all difficulties (Except Secret), I can say that the game is ideal as the very first one for BH players and for old veterans of the genre. The music is beautiful, the characters are awesome, the bullet patterns are unique and fun. Thanks for one more masterpiece <3

REDNEG SWING BY EDITION is a new version of the free indie boss rush shmup REDNEG ALL STARS. While that original version featured characters from REDNEG, this new edition also comes with those from Cosmo Dreamer and Like Dreamer!

The SWING BY edition features two boss rushes : the original one from REDNEG ALL STARS, and a new version called Another Dreamers. This new mode focuses on the characters from Cosmo Dreamer, Like Dreamer and Nightmare Trip.

I will say right off the bat that I’m super biased towards Skapon/Outside, this game's developer. I LOVE HIS GAMES! The art style is cute and the music is really catchy. I’m always amazed at how great the music from dova-syndrome is when it comes to shmups. It feels like the choice of music fits into Skapon’s games nicely.

The fluid gameplay here is very much what you'd expect from his other games : fun for beginners but not without high difficulty options for shoot 'em up veterans. It also has a speed run mode if you’re into that.

The core mechanics are very straightforward and involve a magic gauge that builds up when you collect magic crystals. The closer you are to the enemy, the more crystals you will get. This goes for score star items as well. Using your bomb for the invulnerability frames will also come in handy when milking bosses for score and extends. Of course, there is still more to the game then I’m letting on and this one takes from his previous games such as losing your magic gauge when breaking your shield.

The game offers a manual/tutorial for those who are new, replays, as well as a practice mode that covers every specific encounter. I don’t remember if the practice mode was in the old edition but this is definitely helpful. The game also features a cute art gallery which has a variety of challenges for those looking to hunt achievements.

another Hit Game from developer Outside!

Another great game by these guys! very fun and approachable, with super cute (and curvy sometimes) visuals and nice music. The boss rush gameplay is tight and the patterns are really fun (tho not as creative or with as much staying power as the ones in Cosmo/Like Dreamer but that's probably to be expected with the format of this one). Definitely reccomended and I will get this one for any friends of mine that are just getting into shmups!

It's a pretty good game, I recommend it to anyone who might be starting in the shmup genre. But be advised: There are some girls in this game with very huge assets. But if that's your thing, or you simply don't mind it, then you're good to go.

Redneg is the shmup I've been the most invested in for the past week. With 32 bosses in the regular boss rush and 35 in the alternate mode Another Dreamers, there's a lot of bosses to face, all with very different patterns.

What I appreciate the most about this game is that boss fights are somewhat quick but still challenging. And there's not only a detailed practice mode, but also the extra "challenges" of both modes where you can fight each individual boss without extends or bombs at any difficulty you like, which will get you the corresponding star when defeating them to signify that you did so. There's also Endless which starts you at the lowest rank and then ramps up the difficulty the more bosses you plow through.

There's also plenty of references to some famous CAVE boss patterns in the alternate mode (they added Genbu too).

Whoever made this game knows what makes a good shmup, they know how to make a good entry difficulty while making harder difficulties that challenge experienced players, and it's quite fun too.

I'm not really into the outrageously proportioned women in this game, but the gameplay is best-in-class as far as Touhou-style shmups go. The bullet patterns are very creative! There are several modes, characters, and difficulty levels, so the challenge can be very easy or extremely difficult. There is a lot of content in this game!

I think I prefer Like Dreamer (another shmup by the same developer) better. It has stages and bosses, so there is a little more variety. Redneg Allstars is just a boss rush, but the scoring system seems a little more intuitive. Both games are excellent!

A very fun game of a bunch touhou-like bosses, except without the slower pace of touhou. Fun to fill out the gallery and get achievements.

REDNEG is an extremely approachable boss-rush STG featuring over 30 fights per each of the two modes, many with multiple phases. Much like other STGs/Shmups, there is a boss, you shoot the boss, you dodge the hundreds of bullets the boss shoots, and there's a engaging scoring system in the background to tie it all together. There isn't any fourth button mode switching like Espgaluda (unless you count the optional slowdown button, which I personally turned off) or multi-weapon level ups like Radiant Silvergun. The only thing the player should know going in is that you deal more damage and get more bomb energy the closer you get to the boss. There's a rank (difficulty) system that increases the better you do and goes down if you get hit, and you have autobomb for when that happens.

I give this basic explanation because I think this STG is a great entry point for almost anyone with a passing curiosity in the genre. While saying it's mindblowing or a revolutionary experience would be vastly overrating it, it's a snappy and satisfying game that hooked me way faster than I expected it to. Even on easy the game's difficulty can scale incredibly high if you score well enough, but if you're new to shmups you can hang back, play it safe, and still probably get a clear. The patterns are very readable with almost no cheap deaths- this is especially important since the game revolves around pointblanking the boss, and I can only think of one or two times where an unexpected bullet instantly shotgunned me in the face. The only point of contention I could see for newbies coming into this game is the art style... which I find charming (the in-game sprites kind of remind me of pop'n music), but the giant breasts on some characters and overall silly/lighthearted art style might be a turnoff for some people (to me, both of these combined add to the charm).

I've played a decent amount of shmups, but I dont really ever 1CC any on normal since I personally don't find the grind interesting. Some are too immediately hard/complicated and demoralize me right from the start (Ketsui, Battle Garegga), and others start off fairly easy until they decide to flip on the difficulty lightswitch a few stages in (Mushihimesama Futari stage 3 immediately comes to mind). REDNEG ALLSTARS SWING-BY EDITION is a good mix of both: if the game is too easy, point-blank more to ramp it up quickly. Rank isn't a new invention to the genre by any means, but the snappy boss-rush nature of REDNEG combined with how fast you can get the rank higher makes it feel very breezy and inviting to play.

By the way, I would personally recommend going into the settings and turning the slowdown feature from CONSUMER to ARCADE. But that's just my opinion. It removes a fourth button and adds the slowdown instead to your focus shot.
