Scrap iron soft-lock?

This might be a skill issue, but I cannot seem to find the last 2 scrap iron I need to get the shield.

I've gotten the +5 health, the spear, crossbow, gone through the first portal and killed everything on the other side that I can reach. But I might've bought stuff in the wrong order, and now it looks like I need the shield to get further ahead but I'm missing 2 iron scraps.

Where should I look?

If you've gone through that portal there is a bridge below that leads to an area with a scrap merchant

Disregard previous comment, just realized the Cart/Wheelbarrow on the Map is the Scrap Merchant! Wasted so much time looking for scrap! XD

I think I soft lock myself from the Axe, and no axe and I can't chop that wood. Can't find a way to bring down one of those little blow up fruits... I don't know, I'm stuck.
