Best wishes for vandal?
I have trouble finding good wishes with the vandal. I usualy wish for +3 blessed speed boots large and +3 blessed cleaver when I got alot of money but I still die against red spiders... It says my axe level is not high enough so I guess it needs lvl 3 or more? Should I wish for a +3 battle axe first? And what types of armor should I get? I feel I am close to going very far into the game but I need some advices!

Wishing for a blessed cleaver is a very pointless move. The problem with vandal is never the weapon. It's the armor. The Cleaver is a legendary weapon that requires a lot of axe skill and it is an expensive wish. It's max enchantment when wishing should be +2 (I believe). If you can get any decent armor on your vandal, you should be fine, because you can enchant it to make it better. Never wish for weapons, because you can always just use your basic weapon, get the enchantment identification skill to level 3, and go to the gnome cellars for guaranteed +3 enchanted items. You can't get armor that's large unless you wish it, and you can't win without a full set of good armor.

I'd tell you what armor to wish for, but I've never wished for stuff (I never find it necessary, and I don't play the large characters much) and therefore, I do not know how much money is needed for different types of armor.

I believe all the legendary weapons require the appropriate skill at level 3 to be effective. Having lower doesn't mean you can't wield it, but your chance of hitting is greatly diminished. Wishing for legendaries is not pointless. Even if you don't yet have the skill to use the weapon effectively, you'll have it for when you do. There are many useful things to wish for and everyone will have their own opinion on what they value as useful.

There are multiple ways of getting large armor besides wishing. Some large creatures drop large pieces (mostly chest and helm). You can forge them at the blacksmith - resize armor, takes 3 of the same piece and he will create a large size for you. When you polymorph, armor is resized with you - so polymorph to normal size something, put on some armor, die/polymorph back to large size and the armor is resized. If you are on the good side of the leprechaun king, you can get large speed boots from him.

Good armor to wish for is going to probably include silver dragon scale for chest, speed boots, dex or str gloves, int helm, and a good cloak (e.g. cloak of displacement, cloak of protection, or maybe mana regen if you're going to cast spells).

If you want to do spell casting, you may want to consider wishing for glasses.

If you get a wish very early game, you might want to try wishing for some +3 spears. The easiest win I had was with the Vandal duel-wielding spears with double-speed (speed boots + haste spell), mighty blows, and weapon precision.

Only if you use a fountain.

Well, if you don't use a fountain, then you are wasting that wish. You could easily use it for something much greater, like dragon scale mail, 3 blessed potions of level up, 3 blessed amulets of life saving, 2 rings of +3 regeneration, etc. These things will keep you alive, unlike a legendary weapon.

Now, this gets me thinking.... how much would I need for an amulet of life saving from a fountain....

Again, I would say that depends on the player. Some value doing damage higher than taking damage. Some think "the best defense is a good offense" - kill before being killed. Some like getting better weapons before getting better armor.

It's my opinion that wishing for weapons does not mean you won't live.

And it's not you only get one (non-fountain) wish in the game. You could get many non-fountain wishes. You might also get none. So it's a priortization of what the player considers the most needed/useful (or even just desired) thing at the time. It wouldn't surprise me to hear of someone wishing for food because they were on the verge of starving to death.

Or maybe you're about to die and so you chance using an unidentified wand hoping for a teleport but you get a wand of wishing instead:

That all said, I personally almost never wish for weapons, especially legendaries. The one thing about wishing for legendaries is they're uniquie - there can only be one of each legendary in the game. If the legendary you're wishing for is already in the game, you won't get it - the wish fails.

Spending a wish on non-legendary weapons feels like a waste since most of them are pretty common. The exceptions may be the more uncommon weapons - especially early game. Like the flaming 2-h sword, or one of the mage staves (leafy, white, black), or spears, or red hot pokers.

I did wish for +3 spears once - I got a wand of wishing super early (something like below 400 feet) that gave me a few wishes. I'm pretty sure I wished for silver dragon armor, speed boots, and the spears.
