For fountains, a succesful wish (i.e. one that messages "I wonder if wishes come true" or something like that) simply guarantees the item in question will be within the next 3 floors. It could be anywhere, and it *can* be picked up by enemies. :)
For lamps, only blessed lamps can summon Djinn, and it isn't guaranteed that every blessed lamp will do so. If you light one and see a message reading something like "the lamp seems to never run out of oil", it's got a Djinn in it.
Using non-blessed lamps to remove weapons from your hand is a fantastic way to drop a cursed item. :)
Energy vortexes are a blessing and a curse at the same time. They can charge wands on your person, which while unpredictable is nonetheless helpful, but they can also overcharge them causing them to explode.
Getting rid of them without wands of cancellation is tough. You could teleport them if you're able, and simply run past them far enough that they lose interest. You could polymorph them if possible. You could summon friendly creatures and have them attack it, then go past until it loses interest.
It *is* possible to melee one to death, but it requires a lot of tedious back and forth, hitting it once then moving away before it can overcharge any of your wands, then hitting again, rinse/repeat.
There may be other methods I've forgotten or overlooked, but those are the ones that immediately come to mind.
Good luck. :)
Got no wand of cancellation, and if I go deeper there are tons of vortexes. Cleaned out the mines, and exhausted the shops. Guess I need to go forward and hope for the best.
Sometimes the RNG gods simply don't cooperate. :)
Best advice I can give is go slow and remember it's essentially a turn-based game w/deceptive graphics. "You've got all the time in the world." And who knows? Maybe you'll push forward and find something awesome on the next floor.
But yeah. I played almost 100 hours before beating the game for the first time, and in around 400 have only won with around half the characters. It's pretty brutal at times.
Must locate a wand of cancellation!!
You should check the wiki for details on wishes, and please update it as needed.
You actually can only get a djinni if the oil lamp is a magical lamp and even then you can only get the wish if it's blessed. If the magic lamp is uncursed, the djinni will not give you anything and will jsut say thank you. If it is cursed, the djinni will attack you
The first part is basically what I said, i.e. it's gotta be magical, and I'd forgotten the stipulations on the second part re: uncursed/blessed. Thanks for the reminder. :)
Pet = permanently tame
For most of your summoned creatures you can turn them from mesermized to pet by feeding them, but since oh the latest update or thereabouts I've personally been unable to turn vortexes into pets. Either I've been unlucky or something's changed or I'm mistaken that I was ever able to do so in the first place.
