-Dexterity gloves
-Blessed Potions of Gain Level. Nice both for the ability to upgrade your stats/abilities and for the fact that they give increased, full health when you drink them. Great for when you think you're about to die.
Lots of other stuff can be useful depending on your build and playstyle, but those are the first 3 that come to mind. If you're already at level 10 or 11 or so I'd go for the Gain Level potions, because gaining XP at that point is a slow process and also for their use as last-second saviors. Just my preference/opinion. Good luck. :)
I'm assuming you're already pretty far if you have +3 speedboots & dragon armor. If I were in your position, I'd have already gone with whatever the RNG granted me for a weapon and started building up my related weapon skill.
Best you can get for a weapon is a +3, and hopefully you already have a +3 weapon at that point. You could get the unique one(s), but I prefer non-uniques because you're able to get them up to +8 with a ring effect built in.
Gauntlets of Dex/Power are a great choice like hotblack said. Any of the rare items with a special effect built in could be good. Cloak of Fortification(?) is cool, the one you can only get by wishing. Helm of ESP isn't as uncommon, but still very useful.
Perhaps there's something the game just is not giving you, like a wand of cancelation? A wish can fill a gap like that.
If there's not something in particular you can think of, bag of holding is good, or a Midas Bag is even better.
Depending on how close to the boss he is. If he's within a few levels I'd forego the ring, personally, since one of the rewards will grant the same benefit, freeing up the ring slot, but if he's got a ways to go yet it would definitely come in handy.
The end-game reward, the Amulet, grants teleportation control, thus making the ring redundant when you recieve the Amulet.
My thoughts: only go in the Fort if you're prepared to die in a hail of arrows at any moment. It is *very* easy to be overwhelmed there, even with the most powerful of characters, so if you go in stay on your toes and take things extremely slowly. Don't rush anything, don't take anything for granted, and have a way to teleport to safety in an instant.
Off topic but my grandmother told me that her mom used to warn her about "foreign boys" when my grandmother was a teen. When she asked her mom what she meant, her mother told her to watch out for those with "Roman hands and Russian fingers."
:)
High health regen or healing spell (plus mana regen) is helpful and almost makes it easy mode (with high health bar).
I've only gotten owned there once and I hadn't yet gotten my health bar pumped nor did I have my healing spell yet. I pretty much only play the blue mage, and once I get my health bar pumped, fort is easy.
If you like staves (or just want to do a run with staves because, why not...), the fort boss always drops the unique staff. With a high staff skill and near-constant double-haste, that staff is sick. Careful what gem you put on it.
Although it can be fun (for a short while) to have a staff imbued with a firestone. Make sure you have fire resist first. :)
How about something to shore up what you're deficient in.
Having encumberance issues? 3 bags of holding (can nest them for increased weight reduction, but annoying to manage items)
Low stats? potions of increase ability
The holy triad of scrolls - enchant armor, enchant weapon, charging
Missing ink or feathers? those
Extra rings of regen or stats for forging
Can never have too many wands of cancellation
cloak of displacement is a goodie
caster missing your favorite spell? get that spellbook
non-caster want to do casting? blessed specticles
I've never tried wishing for food, but there are "special" food that give you innate abilities (fire/cold/poison resist, tp control, esp, ...)
Have 20 blue portal stones and no orange? get some
blue mushroom of power, I think it's called.. pick it up then drop it, she casts lighting on your enemies and heals you, but she has very low hp
red hot poker
If you haven't comleted a dungeon yet don't even think about going into Fort Ludos. It's harder than getting the amulet and not necessary.
Be careful! I died many many times getting careless because I thought my character was so hard I wasn't paying anough attention.
