Also, side note, I recommend playing all of the classes relatively evenly. Playing too much barbarian will put you in autopilot mode, ignoring every useful item you have that isn't the weapon in your hand. Sometimes playing a different class will reveal new strategies that you never would have thought of.
Thanks for the tips! I tried a couple runs as Bardess -- lucked into a ring of levitation and spent the entirety of the run playing as my cat.
Turns out they become quite strong!
Unlike my wolf who does excels at nothing except get murdered by sewer rats.
Also going back to wishes-- when you personally wish for something, how do you go about finding it? Do you backtrack, keep playing or what? That's really what I want to know, how other players hunt down their wishes.
Don't worry I consulted the wiki first before coming to bother you guys. I just really want to know another player's strategy when it comes to locating and snagging wishes.
Like if you were me, what would you do?
I think which way you should go statistically depends on your current position, but it would always be safer to check the floors above you than below. I would advise having a decent food supply too, or a bakery on your map, in case food sources are too scarce up there. If I were to search, I would probably do it it in this order: 0ft -> 500ft -> Gnomish Mines -> rest of the dungeon -> Fort Ludios
Edit: I found the following quotes on the wiki
Now that I think about it, I think wishing via fountain is designed to be unreliable, unlike the other wishing methods. Since its not too hard to save up money and definitely easy to toss it in a fountain, it leads me to believe that it's not supposed to be immensely helpful, at least not right away. I think its true purpose is to take some control over RNG and demand of it what should spawn in the dungeon.
Me personally I don't use this method much; I'd rather save my gold for the many services found in the dungeon (for some reason lol, business is booming I guess). I'm not sure if you've heard about the Djini yet, but finding one of those is usually somewhat reliable. Make sure the lamp is optimally blessed before rubbing it. Nobody likes an angry Djini
Thanks a bunch!
So when would you say is a good time to wish if at all? Early game could be iffy because of the global failure chance and less food (although the unexplored bits are less likely to be full of super evil dudes and/or redbacks), would you say after a fully explored gnomish mines or right before going down?
Also I have in-fact seen what you speak and despite it being blessed, he still chased me down with his fancy curved sword and granted me the deepest wish of my heart: a quick death.
The best use of fountains long-term is to blank out scrolls to have blank paper to copy other scrolls onto. Hard to get all your gear up to +7/8 otherwise, and in general you have the utility of whatever you need. Charging & Remove Curse are also pretty important.
