My synopsis on why Spectre Divide failed
It didn't fail because it's a bad game, and it didn't fail because of bad business decisions.

My reason

Spectre Divide failed because it was a mix between consoles being a priority to the face of the game ( shroud ) showing nothing to provide for it in the end.... Spectre Divide failed from the start. Nothing more, nothing less.

Shroud is a multi-millionaire from the Mixer contract he received and through sponsorships. If he actually cared about it, he would have streamed more than 88 hours of it. https://twitchtracker.com/shroud/games/1451084268

He gave Marvel Rivals, 497 hours of stream time (which only came out a few months ago) to his own game of 88 hours of stream time (which came out in September).

I mean where's the Twitch Rivals of Spectre? Don't worry though Shroud is already putting is 40 hours in ( https://twitchtracker.com/shroud/games/1023750977 ) and competing their own competition ( https://x.com/PlayFragPunk/status/1900592764116758987 ) within a few days of release. Literally a slap in the face to Mountain Top developers.

At the end of the day, if Shroud cared, he would have given Mountain Top studios a few extra $100k (which again is chump change to his multi-millionaire status) to keep servers going for a year or two until they find a publisher or even a buyer. Or even with his "status" talk to publishers in his free time to help the game... But he didn't.

In the end, the game failed from the start... The only one to blame is Shroud at the end of the day. As an investor you need to be 110% in, if not, what's the point in investing to see the product grow further?

Official reason

Official reason why Spectre Divide failed was because of consoles. Between development, QA testing and passing certifications the cost of making a console game is too much for an indie company. Spectre Divide should have stayed PC until a proper investor game in.

not even close
the game failed cuz it had a bad launch (crap servers) and they did nothing afterwards. no marketing... nothing..
why would shroud attach himself to this sinking ship. everyone saw the writing on the wall except spectre fans apparently

If shroud supposedly only gave $20k in investment. Mountaintop can only do so much with it. You can't buy servers, pay people and market at the same time.

I truly think shroud thought game development was going to be easy but it's not. He needed to invest more but didn't.

A couple more considerations could be taken into account from what i think. The developers are based in California, that place is WAY, WAY too expensive to live or work in, so the wages, the costs, etc. must of been so high, and not to mention, i dont know if but maybe the studio Mountaintop, had way too many developers? Did they need that many? More people means more wages. And ofcourse the leaders must of had crazy high salaries for themselves like CEOs in publishers do, maybe. Maybe they saw the writting on the wall and the leadership pocketed the leftover money, ensure everyone has severance packages as they are fired. As to how did this game lose its 400K players, well, i think the game simply, is not developed enough, its too small, theres not enough content or anything, modes or proggression, and what it does have, doesnt have it in abundance, be it weapons or maps or anything. And the 2 body mechanic is interesting which helps it stand out from CS2 and Valorant, but unfortunately i dont think its enough, the gimmick/novelty simply loses its magic way too fast and i think people are right just calling it two lives, when all the other body can do, if it survives that is, is give you warnings and defuse the Zeus for you but the latter hardly ever comes into play. Otherwise, its kind of an inferior game compared to the other ones? Some people dont like the artstyle, or the gameplay, like it is more unique but its not unique enough i dont think, there just simply isnt enough meat on its barebones i think. I do like the game, i think its interesting, but, theres simply just not alot to it, its almost as if im playing CS2 but theres 2 less players, less graphic quality, bit harder to keep eye tracking of things maybe, less guns, less maps, less modes, customization is a whole lot better but not by a far margin. Not to mention majority of players have found their own games and stubbornly sticking to them, not hearing or trying this, this is a curse on most new indie games, most flock to old live services but not to newer ones, either because their more invested, more satisfied, better games, not enough advertisement, i dunno, can be all kindsa things. Still, its a shame what has happening to the game, nyeah, atleast they kinda tried but its so tough out there man. Everyone raves about the few indie games that succeed and blow up in mainstream, but nobody talks about the hundreds of indies that fail quietly and invisibly, unheard and unseen, good games but just without reach, help or attention.
