As you can read, we had two complementary workarounds:
1- The player can buy seagull repellent, a liquid that applied to the ship will make seagulls stay away from it for a good while.
2- Any crew member can learn to kill seagulls, so they can approach the boat and poop, so when seagulls approach the boat to rest and poop, the seagull-killing skilled pirates will hunt them and cook them.

I'd like #2, mainly as a good source of food for the crew without having to purchase. Though it could be applied more widely by calling it "hunting", allowing for crew to hunt all sorts of animals in the game for food.
My suggestions:
1. "Mop and bucket" as an item to be placed or like a fishing rod held in hand. With the cleaning perk it can dispose of multiple piles of poop quickly without having to go to the surface deck to dispose of.
2. A head ( bathroom) for sailors to use. Purchaseable from the ship equipment vendors and placed in the ship setup. Sailors with the toilet study, would go to the head instead of just releaving them selves on the deck. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Head_(watercraft)
Personally I find the poop mechanic somewhat funny and to a certain extent even a bit realistic (yes it's too exagerated LOL), so I wouldn't remove it completely,since it has somehow become part of the game's identity... BUT yes, it is a bit out of place that a pirate considers to go poop cleaning all the way when his life and the life of their fellow crew members is in serious danger... maybe prioritizing the fight over the poop cleaning will solve this particular case... don't you think?
Maybe add a Percentage option at the beginning of a new game for poop like you did for moral.
Also I suggest there is must be a vomit to clean which will possibly spawn from crew members after they drank rum. Vomit should act like poop just look differently.
For all poop-mechanic haters, use your imagination. What do expect from bunch of drunkards and low-lifes? Mens with perfect manners? P-lease..
They are pirates. They can't even speak properly. They drink rum untill they puke or drop and sheat their pants. They also having fun in occasional peas-fights.
And who will clean up this mess after them?
This perfectly corresponds with spirit of the game.
I saved up to buy the -poop properly perk- and found it did the opposite of what I was hoping after the point of reverting it. Yes, there is way too much pooping going on. Now, with 3 sailors with that perk, it is more than a hassle for my cleaner. If it was 1/3 as much as it is right now, it would still be funny to me and worthwile keeping around. However, right now, it is extremely annoying. I'm going to see if I can edit it out of my save lol. It is just wayyy too much. With the whole crew and the three poop machines, my ship now leaves a massive brown wake that even the fish are having problems breathing and swimming in.
Luckily, I found two diapers. However, I do not want to remove the cool passives that are on these sailors already...

Actually... I don't even know how the poop machine perk got there. I bought the toilet study perk. Might have already come with the crew that I bought then. It's a lot of poo.

I had to find the crew/character inside of the save that had POOP MACHINE and removed it + the value.
It looked like this:
/BASIC ATTACK_POOP MACHINE_COOKING/#_X_#/#_X_#/etc
(# represents whatever number is there for the perk)
(X is probably 10 for the poop machine)
Edited it out like this:
/BASIC ATTACK_COOKING/#_#/#_#/etc
I believe it is something like:
/PERK/the level it is at/another for the progression to next level/
Backup your save if you do it. Had to fiddle with another perk on there for pooping to get it further down. The first time I didn't edit it properly and it did some weird things with the crew member's stats/values for other perks& group. I think it was because the way it was ordered was off since the first time I didn't take out the second set value as well as the first value when I had edited out the perk. It's all fine now.
