F8 supposedly activates cheats but...

I was informed by multiple sources, reddit, the gameki page and the official wiki that F8 activates cheats. I personally don't care if you're a fan of cheats or not but when I press F8 I'm greated with a neat little message "I'm sorry Captain Dave , I'm afraid I can't do that..." and cheats aren't activated. I'm not sure why but for one reason or another the devs decided fishing, cleaning poop and cooking at level one was OP so they've made the fishing rod cost about 700g more than it's worth. I'm no good with scripts or I'd go into my files and try rewriting some of these prices, each encounter yealds ok gold but it's a grindfest I'm not interested in. Has anybody else had luck making cheats/ dev console work?
This may be a recent addon for the latest patch but it's annoying, that and they decided more than one stat level one was OP too.

Who's idea was it to make the fishing rod cost almost 800g, they're worse than Pol Pot. Bring back the cheats!

Why did you remove cheats? It was fun and since the game is not online its not doing anything.

If you are going to cheat in a simple game like this, I cant imagine what you would do with a challenging game?

Not everybody sits around just playing videogames, I don't want to spend hours on a 2d game I payed for just to get basic items that shouldn't cost what they cost. Unless the game's been updated for basic items like a fishing rod to cost less it's a bit absurd.

In 10 minutes after capturing 3 ships you ahve enough to buy it lol.

Have they reworked the starting stats? I haven't played the game since I made this comment.

Its like 600 or so gold but the ships you capture only take 1 minute to beat. In 15 minutes you have enough for food, shovel and fishing rod. And just maybe you find a book or 2 to train a skill. I think you get a cleaning book to start now.

around the time the game officially was for sale capped two ships and an island, backed to port with enough gold to get cleaning, fishing, cooking and a fishing rod.

It's really disappointing to see the cheats disabled. People had so much fun using them

That was my point, some people have fun just burning through the needless grind to get to the meat of the game.

This whole game is a grind attack ship - repeat, attack island repeat, visit town restock supplies repeat- so wheres the meat? Its all the same no matter your level.
