Demo?
The last review of this game on the Steam page mentioned a demo.
How can I play this?

Coupon, sale, or not, I don't know if I'd enjoy a silly little 2D pirate game. Pirate games are all' bout cannons and turning the boat to shoot stuff, dunno how they can even begin to make that good in a 2d-sidescroller enviroment.

Go to http://www.desura.com/games/pixel-piracy/downloads/open-alpha and click on "Download" button.

Never-mind there isn't a demo anymore I don't think, As soon as I posted this the demos were removed.

Never-mind again, they are back...

Ew, it may just be the demo, but it seems crap
So, first I arrive in the game, dunno what to do.
Finally figure out how to buy a crew, and build my boat. So then I decide to hit the world map and sail somewhere (After all, there is absolutely nothing else to do here.)

After clicking sail, my captain grapples on to the boat and gets on, the crew member stays there. I had to go back and hit sail again as they stopped there. Afterwords, I ended up in a new place, my crewman still left behind.

For an alpha demo, hardly impressive so far. If this is how bad the real game is, with boring-ass ship building of huge blocks, pixel pirates screaming high-pitched "yarhg!"s and "black spot!", and whatnot. Demos should make you want to get a game, not remove all doubt it looks bad so far

If you want a demo version, better go and download it from bit torrent, since the Desura demo is pretty outdated. If you like it, then you can come back and buy it :)

I take that as a "no". That's too bad. I'm not into torrenting and I won't buy without trying it first :) I can't understand why there are so few demos out there...

Once upon a time kids would get a game from their parents for their birthday and maybe on chrismas. With other money they got around the year, they could buy 2 or 3 more. Companies didn't have internet so to show their game they included cd's with magazines that had +50 demos each month. Kids loved this to make the best choice on which 5 games to get that year.

Today I don't know a kid that doesn't get a €500 smartphone from the parents and games are so "cheap" they are just impulse buys. The companies have the internet to show their game and the amount of impulse buyers is so huge now compared to people who read a review for 5minutes before spending money, that making a demo just isn't worth it anymore.

Marketing has shifted human psychology from getting the pleasure of ownership to the pleasure of purchase.

I've never really noticed anything you just said, from game demo CD's to impulse buying and 500$ smartphones.

I have a 600$ computer, and am addicted to pirating games for demos, if that counts though.
