Red Baron Pack

Red Baron Pack

Compatibility with Windows 7 compared to the GOG version
I recently purchased the GOG version of Red Baron 3D which is supposedly incompatible with Windows 7. However, I (and a few others) have mangaged to get the GOG version of RB3D to run on Windows 7 with a few workarounds, albeit with poor framerates due to problems with GOG's setspeed.exe utility.

The steam version states that it can run on Windows 7 in the requirements section of its store page. If this is true, then surely the steam version is a superior product. However, as my problems are mainly tied to how the game throttles its play speed on modern systems, I'm hesitant to make a purchase due to the possibility of running into the same problem with this version.

What I would like to know is whether the steam version works on Windows 7 without any framerate issues and what kind of game-speed throttling utility the steam version is outfitted with (turbo.exe?).

PS: Sorry that this post is a bit of an essay, I just thought it was worth highlighting a possible crucial difference between this and the GOG version.

I have both Steam and GOG RB3d, there is no setspeed utility that I can find in Steam.
My fps are low in Steam single play 14fps, but fine in multiplay online.

GOG version is a old one 1.0.0.20 but my setspeed works! set@70 gives 25-30fps nice and smooth not too fast. I also use dgVoodoo 1.5 beta2 for glide, works great with OTE terrain.

Salute!
