$9 vs $200-300? That is the main difference. $9 for an old classic WWI Flight sim for all it's content/bells/whistles. Or Spend hundreds on Rise of Flight which has lots of content, modern graphics and amazing flight model, but to get all of it will cost you a pretty penny.

True, but Rise of Flight is a work of art. If you want something that sets the bar for flight sims you can't go wrong. However, it is expensive.

I have Rise of Flight and all the aircraft on it, I know it is truely a work of art. But it would break the bank for a lot of people to get the full experience. hehe

25 year old game versus modern. In 1990 Red Baron was state of the art. Compared to RoF or Wings over Flanders Fields (Last I checked $40 or 50 gave you 55 planes) however, Red Baron simply can't compete

I was thinking of adding Channel Battles Edition to the original free. How is the game with everything in it ?

Whats best stick ?

Am looking at x-52 pro.

Really just a large amount of aircraft/customization for said aircraft, let alone more campaigns, and unrestricted Career mode.

Career mode your squadron will change out aircraft over time. So say you want to start as a German in 1916, well you will be flying a Fokker E.III, but within the first month the squadrons seem to adopt Albatross D.II aircraft. So to progress through a career game or to "start" at any time period during the war on career you kind of need as many aircraft as you can possibly get. That is when Rise of Flight becomes expensive.

I own every aircraft (well it seems accept for the new East Front ones they added recently oh my), as well as all the customization options for those aircraft, so I can add additional machines guns, gauges, etc etc etc. It's fun sticking a Captured British Lewis on top of my Albatross for example. hehe

I recommend Rise of Flight if you aren't concerned about paying more--really you pay as much as you want since it comes with basic planes and campaigns, but you can expand those for more money. RoF is truly beautiful and is quite flexible to run on a variety of systems. It also has higher fidelity as a flight sim. The one thing that I miss from Red Baron was the wonderful campaign, which I found more immersive than the one's available with RoF. You might also check out Wings over Flanders Field, as mentioned above. I have heard it compared favorably graphics and sim-wise to RoF, but also as having a better campaign system like Red Baron. You have to purchase Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator 3, though, as Wings builds off that system.

If you wan't a single player flightsim, go for Red Baron 3D. It has way better campaign than Rise of Flight. But If it's MP your after, go for Rise of Flight.

RoF is a 'tad' more realistic ;-)

True, and RoF also has much, much better graphics and a greater selection of planes, but I still agree with Rashmeister that Red Baron's campaign is more fun.

Depends really on what your looking for. I have both, I like both, but Red Baron II wins out on Rise of Flight simply for the campaign and time restrictions. I can get in and out of Red Baron II pretty easy, which I like better than Rise of Flight. However, if you have the time to sink into the game, Rise of Flight has far better physics, more flyable planes (everything actually), and, obviously, better graphics and damage.

I agree, I have both... But for a quick fly now or some online fun.
I'll always pick Red Baron first, it's just more fun!

Just like to suggest Wings over Flanders Fields if it is single player you are interested in.

I had Red BAron and Knights of the SKY. Played the hell out of 'em. Fun, fun, FUN!

I have ROF also - have had it almost since it 1st came out.

As many say it is a work of art. But then art is meant to be looked at and not handled or in this case played.

If I've got 10 hours in it I'd be surprised. No excitement. Missions are lacking pizazz and the campaigns have no soul.

I'm still hoping they'll do something about the campaign to make it more engaging.
