Game controls
These games were so wonderful in their time. How do the controls hold up with today's mouse and/or Xbox controller?

Do both games work well with mouse and keyboard?

Do both games work well with an Xbox controller?

What control scheme do the developers suggest as the preferred method? Or, is a joystick highly recommended to get any enjoyment out of these games?

Thanks!

When I played it back in the day a joystick made it a much better experience than playing with the keyboard. I don't know how simple it is to map it to an xbox controller, but I imagine if that's possible it might work well enough.

Ten years ago, I was able to use a saitek Gamepad, the right JS controlled the Aielerons and elevators, the left JS controlled the rudder. A twist JS like the Loditech Extreme 3D Pro worked much better and gave finer controll.

Oh yeah, of course a joystick with rudder control is always optimal. Everyone had joysticks back when these games came out. But, I no longer own one, and don't want to buy one just for this game.

Anyone having any luck with the Saitek X52 joystick?

I'm using a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, didn't have to touch a thing to get it to work in RB3D, just had to enable it in RB.

I had a PS3 with Motionjoy working when I had the gog.com version of Red Baron 3D installed. So all I can say is "try" harder. Honestly though, I remember there being some kind of menu for joysticks/controllers I forgot how to access it though.

My trusty Logitech Extreme 3D Pro also working without a hitch. As jztemle said above, didn't have to touch a thing. Easier even than with Rise of Flight or Battle of Stalingrad, where I had to tweak to get things right.

I can confirm RB3D works with a xbox 360 controller... I do use xpadder and did map the keys to what I wanted before I played so I don't know what the controller does without it.

Wish I could say the same regarding the joystick.. I also have a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, USB joystick (Windows 10). I could activate it in Red Baron 1, but 3D doesn't seem to recognize it.... :steamsad:
