Joystick Help - Let's put this to bed!
Hi, long time fan of RBII/3D. I have several physical copies from when I was a kid and originally fell in love with this game, and was pleasantly surprised that - unlike my remaining disc copies - this steam version works on my PC without a hitch!

However - there is one snag: I cannot for the life of me get RB3D to detect my joystick. Conversely, it works perfectly fine in the original RB that comes with the pack - so I know my joystick is functional and is detected by my PC.

I've looked through the forums here, on good old games, and event the old aerodrome website - and while there are a handful of threads on the issue, none of them have a definitive answer on how to fix this.

I've used this very joystick with RBII before - it's a Saitek 290 that I got specifically to play RBII many many years ago - so I know it's not a compatability issue with the game. My only guess is there must be some setting, .ini, or SOMETHING that I need to tweak that I'm missing.

If you have any ideas on how to resolve this it would be immensely appreciated - not just by me - but anyone else who may come after and have this same problem. Let's finally put this one to bed!

Thanks :)

**Update**

Persistance is a hell of a thing! I was about to turn in to bed and see if anyone responded in the morning, but decided to look over things one more time and VOILA, I've discovered a solution.

So here's what worked for me (note: I'm running Windows 7):

Go to "Control Panel" -> "Hardware and Sound" -> "Devices and Printers"

Then right-click on your joystick which should be listed among the devices, and then click "Game controller settings" in the pop-up menu.

In the next pop-up window titled "Game Controllers", press the button that says "Advanced..."

The next pop-up should say, "Select the device you want to use with older programs."

Make sure your joystick is selected! That's it, your joystick should (hopefully) work in RB3D now!

So it works with Windows 7... 64 bit or 32?

Oops, sorry to reply so late - I believe both. I am running Win 7 64 bit.

Thanks for this good post. I used your tip to get the joystick working in Win10 64-bit. Now if I could find a decent resolution and full-screen patch.
