Why did this game die?

Just today, I went to steamcharts.com and found out that Zombie Grinder literally only has one player currently playing.

I'm guessing that Zombie Grinder died because the Developer just gave up?

Use to be a game that you could download outside of steam for free (I think it was on Desura). It was pretty popular at that time, you could met ingame people from all around the globe. But with the steam release, you needed to pay around 9€ a game that used to be free, so people expected a lot from the dev(s?). To be fair, they added some features for the steam release and changed the progression system. It was kind of well made, even though I personnaly think it was restrictive (you coudn't create a character based on speed only, damage dealt only or tankiness alone with the new system). It was a good start, but after that, the game lost his support from the devs and died out slowly.

It's a shame, because before the steam release, it was a lot of fun, with a small but solid player base.

Game played smoothly and the zombie killing was fun, but the overall structure of the game was bad. The way that you had to place gems into your weapon to downgrade it was bad. The camplaign was awful and pointless. The gameplay pretty much ended whenever you reached a high score in your favorite play mode. That is really all there is to it, it had plenty of opportunity to thrive.
