Out of the Park Baseball 14

How does this compare to sims like Diamond Mind or Strat-O-Matic?
I only have experience with Diamond Mind, waaaaaaaay back when it was still called Pursue the Pennant (my version had the 1990 roster disk; I owned a Tandy 1000 and had to upgrade the RAM from 256K to 512K to run the thing - back then we still drew on cave walls & it was around that time that my buddy Neil discovered fire, I think)

I just want a good baseball sim that's fun but doesn't throw realism out the window. I like console gaming but they've never done the kind of baseball game I enjoy.

There is a demo on thier website that would be the best way to experience it for sure. I have played a few other games in the genre and this is he deepest and complex for good reasons...it is like you own/manage the teams. Grab the demo and give it a shot.

I may be a huge Phillies fan who despises Curt Schilling's current politics and life choices, but I still enjoy reading his personal OOTP reports because I always knew I was getting a perspective of the game from someone who actually lived the life. Let me put it another way for prospective OOTP buyers:

If a Hall of Fame caliber baseball player can totally lose himself in a computer baseball simulation, I'm pretty sure anyone who has a passing interest in the sport, they can too...

Curt is "gehrig38" on the official forums and writes full stories about his OOTP teams on the official forums:

Now that's a good recommendation. Celeb endorsements don't normally do much for me on their own but Schilling has legit gaming cred (dude bought the rights to Advanced Squad Leader just so he could keep it in print, that's some hardcore nerdiness)

Thanks for that tip & link, you have likely just sold a copy of this game, my friend.

PS - Dunwich Horror^^ Big Lovecraft fan here.

PPS - I'll try that demo too, thanks Blackdeath.

Picture a better Diamond Mind with career mode.

Wow!
I interviewed Curt and wrote an article that I published on our forum.

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/board/articles-about-ootp-s-games/227698-curt-schilling-there-no-comparison-any-sports-sim-i-ve-ever-played.html

I have written many more articles about people, well-known and not, who play OOTP. Those articles are here:

We would like to move the articles to a higher profile spot on the site and make them look much nicer, but they'll give you a sense of the wide range of folks who play OOTP.

My son has the game and in just a few weeks he's played through 7 or 8 full MLB seasons as just GM. He has gotten fired a couple times but that's what happens when you aren't a good GM.
For those who aren't sure: You can turn off the option that allows your owner to fire you, if you want.

Always turn that option off. Owners can be jerks.
