Yes, the game can be complicated, but the easiest thing to do is start a current season in it - which would start you at Opening Day 2013 in OOTP 14 (OOTP 15 will be out in April). There's a simple wizard that has you pick your team, give your GM a name, etc., and then you're ready to start running your club. The Manager Home Screen alerts you to anything that needs to be done, and you can use the Lineup and Pitching screens to set up those aspects of your team.
You can also turn certain things over to the AI, if you don't want to deal with it, such as setting lineups or deciding in-game strategies (when to hit-and-run, when to steal, etc.).
Also, I work for the company, so I would be happy to help you out with any areas of the game where you had difficulties. I would even be willing to get on the phone and walk you through certain things. Thanks.
1. how do you use AI to sort strategy and line ups? i no how to get (bench coach and manager) to do it, but if i could get ai to do it before every game without me having to click on the setting and input "ask manager to fill all lines" that would save me alot of stress and time! ive still got the demo and have done 2 half seasons and im liking it but also finding it hard to b consistant, like i get 5 straight wins then 7 straight losses lol its like form counts for nothing.
You can also click Roster Overview from the team menu (the name of your team) and click the Action button at the bottom. There are options there to have the AI set up your entire team, if you want it to set the lineups, pitching rotations, strategies, etc.
Also, note the Personnel screen under the Front Office sub menu in the team menu: That's where you'll see your team's manager, coaches, and trainer. All of those guys have ratings, so if you don't like them, you can fire them and hire replacements. You can also promote/demote them or move them into other roles (so you can fire your manager and make your hitting coach the manager, for example).
While you're in that screen, there's a Scouting tab at the top. Click that to see your scouts. Just like your coaching staff, the scouts have abilities, so you can fire and hire those guys too if you want to improve your scouting. That can make a difference when evaluating free agents, running the June draft, etc.
LMK if you have any other questions. Thanks.
