same here. We pressed all keys over and over...and finally the tape was insert wow :D
This worked for me. Face the TV and right-click, then the VHS tape will pop up, then left-click. it will go through the steps and play.
Throughout the game I merely had to left-click to use the item, not this time. When I left-clicked initially on the VCR, it just went into standby mode and stayed there. I assumed the tape had been automatically inserted, but it was not. No amount of clicking worked.
Indeed, needed to right click the player!
Too bad this mechanic is introduced at the very end of the game
You rented the extended version and directors cuts on that VHS. you also forgot to rewind it which is why it was longer.
