However, there IS items that costs real money that seems to give you added advantages, such as sheep with colored wool.
In the housing, for completing a quest, they give you a permit paper that lets you buy one house.
But to open it, you gotta select a decor, and as far as I could tell, that cost rl money(dunno if thats what the p2w reviews are talkin about or not.) Hope this helps. Its easy enough to install and try out for free, so no big loss if it turns out worse than you feared.
So not pay to win, there is nothing you can't do just because you don't spend money.

If you have already used your free house licence, and are too lazy to collect the items above, you CAN also purchase another house licence for real money, but seriously, unless you just won the lottery, why would you do that?
However you obtain the licence or in game items, you can then build your house. No extra "decor" is required. Once you get a house, you have to pay rent of 10 silvers a fortnight. Given that you receive 2 silvers a day just for logging in, this is no great hardship. (It just means villages don't end up filled with the empty houses of inactive players.) There are decor packs which you can buy, which give you little boosts in eg gathering or farming, and obviously also change the appearance of your house, but these are obtained by unlocking achievements and paying in game money, not real money. Again, if you have more money than sense, you can short circuit the system by purchasing the upgrade for real money, but again why would you?
As for the sheep, you can buy the special sheep for in game gold. Short circuiting the system by paying real money for them is again possible, but particularly pointless, since you have to be a certain level in ranching to be able to tend them.
The main reason people accuse the game of being pay to win is because of the vim system. Above level 16, you unlock vim, and every craft or gather costs vim. You have a base of around 200 vim at that stage, and it regens quite slowly, so some players say this is a py to win mechanic. This ignores a few basic facts, though. The most significant one being that vim is NOT available in the item shop. (except during some of the holiday events).
Vim can also be boosted in numerous ways in game. Killing bounties, growing herbs, levelling up any skill, cooking regen potions, to name just a few. Vim, and working out a strategy to make the best of it, is a part of this game.
It is unfortunate that vim appears only when you reach level 16. (It used to be there from the beginning.) Many of the negative reviews are written by players who have been enjoying the game without vim, and when they hit it, they are so angry at what they THINK is a pay 2 win mechanic that they leave without ever trying to learn about how to work round vim.

It is not PAY TO PLAY .. because nothing in the game can't be obtained without hours of playing.
Well I havnt really played it allot cause I already got bored of it very quikly XD but your argument is valid, eventho P2W stands for the fact that stuff you pay for is better in everyway then the stuff you get in-game, now you CAN get everything in-game but you have to grind weeks for it, which makes it kinda P2W since they wont allow you to gain it faster trough in-game mechanics...
I'm also saying this after playing another game (not like this one) called Evony, where if you don't pay money you will loose all the time. But it's a free game.
I've been playing for nearly a year now, I'm lvl 52 (I've had plenty of people pass me by there). I've only payed money because I feel like it's great to support a game you love.
In ArcheAge there was a Labor system that was the exact same concept as the Vim system.
In the early days of F2P MMOs, around 2006, the pitch was that those that had the time could spend their time and those that didn't have the time but worked could spend their cash. F2P MMO companies are now, also, charging the people that have the time.
Now those that have the time to play, have to pay to play a "free to play" game.
Anyways, I looked into this post because I really liked the gameplay video but didn't want to get into another P2W MMO or another P2"Make things quicker or simpler" or however some people argue it, like the last few I've tried, thanks for the posts guys.
Except as I pointed out in my original post, in this game, not only do you not have to pay real money for Vim, you can't, because it isn't in the item shop. It is sometimes available during holiday events, but the last time that happened was Christmas, so clearly this is one MMO company that is not forcing players with time to pay.
There is no point in having a craft and gathering system self-limiting unless there is a monetary incentive. And if their isn't a monetary incentive then it's just restricting players for the sake of restricting them. For some reason I think it's not the latter.
Principally, it helps to combat bots, since if the system has some limiting mechanism, botting is not very effective. Secondly it helps to prolong players' time in the game. Thirdly it requires that players invest TIME in the game, giving a more active feel to the community. Fourthly it provides a sense of achievement to overcome the limiting system and gain levels. And yes of course it could be for a monetary incentive, but having played this game, I genuinely do not see any evidence of that here.
