Villagers and Heroes

Update 2.27.3 now won't let me load V&H
I just put in 29 hours of play (Level 13 Hunter) in about 3 days before the recent update. On a netbook that runs Guild Wars 1 (all three chapters) the V&H performance was sluggish but I was still able to play. Now the new update enforces a DirectX 9.0 and Pixel Shader 1.1 requirement and will not let me into the game. It just gives me a Windows dialog box and refuses to load Villagers and Heroes. I can still run Steam just fine, which is why I can lodge this complaint.

To the developers; should I be buying a new computer in order to run your Free To Play game? Or does layering on features to this game necessitate barring certain members of your community from further play?

Hi there, sorry about the issues you're having! If you could, would you please provide a little more information so we can decipher if this is an issue with the update or something else? If you could run a dxdiag by clicking the Start button, typing dxdiag in the Search box, and then pressing ENTER. Also, if you could provide either a screen shot or exact description of the error message your getting as well. Thank you!

I had just created a new character immediately before the update's download. After the download, this is the error dialog I get before getting kicked out:

Failed to initialize Direct3D! Make sure you have DirectX 9 installed, and are running a graphics card that supports Pixel Shader 1.1.

...and here is the dxdiag output:

I just loaded Lord of the Rings Online through Steam to replace V&H, and it runs fine on this 5 year old laptop. That game has been around awhile, too. Perhaps they want a slice of the $400+ dollars I spent on Guild Wars since 2007 (including $100 in the last year on an alt account.) "Moving with the times" is a way for a game developer to lose revenue.
