When I first started max level was 20, now it 79 and they are adding more content and levels this year.
The first zone you go to is a learning zone, where it is just you and you have to kill 4 goblins to go through a portal. So yes, if that is all you ever see then it has a dead feeling to it.
I play on US2, the default mobile server for the game and it is packed with new people all the time. Almost to the point of being crowded in the main city and it shows with the lag.
To be brutal honest this game right now is the best it has been, with a new patch and brand new content added less then 2 weeks ago. Mounts are new to the game less then 7 months old.
They are redoing the whole control and combat for the game this year. They got rid of the energy system vim which was bad and did remove a good portion of the old player base.
The game has a rebirth system where you can hit max level 79 and go back to level 1 and replay it 4 times.
The game has 3 free slots for toons on each server so you can play multiple classes for free.
You do not see much activity here on the steam client because steam will not allow you to play the same characters both on the pc and mobile devices. When you are in game I would say 99% of the new population has seen the game in the app store and getting it there.
I agree with Strategy, the game is now the best it's ever been. The new content and expended main story are great. Warning - the game can be highly addictive and I play far too much.
It saw new end-game content and features last year, as well as becoming available to mobile players. This year it will see an expansion in the available languages, making the game playable to a larger audience. There will be a streamlining of the starter/tutorial zones, more end-game content, a revamped combat system, and some repeatable content the devs have been a bit tight lipped about thus far.
I have been playing for the pst 3 years, and this game continues to get a lot of love and attention from its owners and staff. Each year I have played, it has improved, and there are some ambitious projects currently in development.
Yes, the player base seems a little small, but that is not unusual for an indie company of this size. The owners are very involved. The community is rather loyal, and I do not see this game declining anytime soon.
