Bug opening gate in the tower [Fixed]

I encountered a game breaking bug in the tower. after having killed the masked man/monster in the tower, I pulled the lever and you can see the gate open and then the screen fades to black. Then nothing happens (you can still hear sound and move around, but the screen stays black). I reloaded the game, re-played the part and the same thing happened again.

When you start the game, do the "intro movies" show up, or do you just get a black screen with sound? What about the "level loading" movie? If you can hear the movies then it means they play, but when I've gotten the black screen glitch it's usually caused by playing the game at a resolution other than your screen resolution.

I do get intro movies (the unreal and domaginarium logos) and the fog loading movies. As for the resolution, my monitor is 2560x1600 resolution. The game options often revert back to saying 1024x768 even though it is still clearly running in native resolution (sometimes the brightness and sound also suddenly in the options go to the lowest setting).

Anyway I will try again and make sure my native resolution is displayed also in the options.

I tried again, made sure to set my native resolution to 2560x1600 in the options. But I encountered the same bug, it also appears that when I pull the lever nothing happens at first (you hear the sound effect of the gate opening, but it doesn't open). I walked back a bit and then up front to the gate and it stared to open. Also if relevant while in this lift section[imgur.com], when you get assaulted it is also completely dark. However I assume this is intentional.

Also if you exit to the menu, it gets a bit brighter and you can see a bit like this[i.imgur.com]. And I also noticed that when I went back to options it had again reset to stating 1024x768 (however the game was still running in 2560x1600.

Now this is weird. As far as I can remember full screen movies are not affected by the brightness settings, so off the top of my head there's one more thing you could try.
Usually, a movie will always play correctly when you're on windowed mode, so you could try doing that (even if playing in windowed mode kinda sucks).

Right click on Enola and select properties, and then go to the local content tab (I can't remember the exact wording), click on the "show local content" folder and navigate to this folder:
\Steam\SteamApps\common\Enola\UDKGame\Config
Open the UDKSystemSettings.ini file, look for "Fullscreen" and set it to false. The game should start in windowed mode. The movie *should* play correctly this time.
I didn't add a switch to do that in game because, in theory, the game should only launch in windowed mode the first time and then switch to full screen (and remain like that) from that point on.

I tried that now, played in windowed mode but unfortunately same problem, after pulling the lever the gate opens and then the game fades to black. I assume it is that at this point the movie should start playing, but nothing happens (the screen remains black, but you can still hear the sounds of the game running).

I hope I just didn't do something really stupid when setting that up...

That's weird, mine opened just fine. There was a slight delay (~1min) but it opened up.

You get audio but no video for the ending either, even after trying what I'd said above?
BTW, is you r screen resolution also as high?

Just to clarify, when the game fades to black, I don't get the audio of the movie. The audio I hear is the in-game sounds just continuing on. So the problem appears to be that the movie doesn't even start playing, rather than it not displaying correctly.

If others can get the ending fine, it sounds like your problem is caused by the movie not being there. Open the steam client, right click on the game, go to the "local content" tab and click the "verify local content" button (not sure if that's the actual button label, because my steam is in a different language). It should check if you are missing any file and re-download.

I just checked and the ending movies are included, so they should just download with no problem at all.

I verified the cache and it downloaded 400 bytes, so I guess that is just settings files. Tried replaying the ending part again, and still same problem.

Just to verify. Go to
\Steam\SteamApps\common\Enola\UDKGame\Movies and check there are 11 files there.
Also, you are sure you're using the latest version, right?

I can't think of a reason why they are not playing. I just played that last part and I got the ending to play just fine. The only thing I can think of is that maybe files are too large and your native resolution is too high (I play at 1080p), but if endings work for others, I can't find a reason why they shouldn't work for you.

Yea there are 11 files there and the game says version 1.01, I would assume the resolution would not be a problem considering the other movies play fine in the game. Maybe it's my savefile or game that got glitched somehow, maybe it could be the choices that I made?.

Anyway I guess not many have got this far in the game yet, so eventually if more people are experiencing this problem we might see a connection.
