nah, It was working fine after that.
There was a DDOS and it would have been fine except the server failed and the backup drive was configured incorrectly, so it was empty. Wyrmbyte had to roll it back to an older version from before their new version was migrated onto the server. They never upgraded the game after that, so old bugs and exploits returned; I could not stop that.
I offered my hand to help rebuild it but they refused to communicate. I super-sleuthed the owner's number and called, he told me he was busy and would call me back; he never called me back and never picked up when I called again. The office was at a location where you rent offices as needed and basically gain a PO Box, so... I was never able to meet them in person when I tried to go buy them lunch or dinner to show them a few new maps, dragons, and weapons that I'd designed by converting and using existing assets already in the game.
I had ideas for a new co-op version to play as Avatars and level up and customize them, with a story arc for them to acquire new Dragons, and an arena for Dragon battles one could enter to fight their Dragons in a 3D environment; or battle Avatar vs Avatar on the ground. The fake office and refused contact really miffed me, it was an obstacle I could not overcome to help the community.
They were trying to sell the game for like $400k. They weren't able to sell it for what they wanted to... so they threw me the keys and disappeared; except for when they told me they were withdrawing support for the game and the game would end when current contracts with Steam expired. I was able to keep it running for a couple of years until then. I changed the Free Rotation of Dragons and Weapons weekly, organized a few events with prizes out of my own pocket. Wyrmbyte just didn't renew their contract with Steam/Steamworks... so it was shuttered.
I tried my best to get them to at least keep the Story Mode going.
...I'm even still here, Moderating this Forum and keeping it clean...
It's a pity because it was a good game.
big shoutout to you for being commited to keeping the game up (for as long as it was possible)
