how does a racing game not have multiplayer in 2025?

That's what's been happening in the past, at least, 5 years. Single player campaign (not necessarily story) has been marginalised in favour of online features, that most of the time have little to no relevance and place in a racing game. And yes, they are forcing us to play online; PvP or PvE, festival playlists, summits, speed passes that unlock with ridiculous multiplayer requirements, it goes on... There isn't a choice, or it hasn't been one for a while, so this is a breath of fresh air: I want a car, I can grind for one, I don't have to win 11 online speedlists on a rainy Thursday afternoon with my left foot up in the air... and since I am old (most of us that have experienced the TXR games when they were out, we probably are not college kids anymore), if I want to interact with other humans, I go for a coffee or a beer...

...with that said, it would be nice if we get to share our liveries or our tuning set ups (it's a nice, rewarding feeling when something that you created gets used by others + sometimes I'm lazy and I want to use something ready!). Hanging out at the PA, watching what other players have brought out would have been nice also...

The only tokyo racer game that did had online play was Import Tuner Challenge on Xbox 360 however i do believe the servers got axed a while by now.

it was never multiplayer to begin with. i personally dont care if its single or multiplayer, ive waited too long to play this franchise again.

I'd vote for a multiplayer PvE mode before PvP. People in computer games cheat like the dickens. Would be fairer to cheat against the computer than humans. It would be cool to form your own crew, logo, bios, etc.... then maybe once the singleplayer group coop is worked out, have leader boards, time attacks, chain races/survival rankings... then maybe move on to straight PvP. Walk before you run, especially in this series too many people are so glad to see it return... just don't try to change too much and screw it up!

Maybe i speak for myself on this but kudos to those who agree with me

I honestly don't care if this game doesnt have multiplayer EVER (theres too many arcade multiplayer games out there already this one doesnt need to be another one of them)

the game has freeroam? yes

is there a plentiful amount of JDM cars that are iconic throughout history? yes

does the game have alot of customizational features? yes

does the game force you to have an internet connection to play it? No

Will i get this game? sure why not as long as they continue to put out new content despite it being singleplayer i dont mind showing my support

It does not have multiplayer for the same reason a game like Final Fantasy 7 doesn't have multiplayer, because it's not a multiplayer game, that was never the focus.

Not everything has to have multiplayer, looks like somebody doesn't understand what this game was actually about and what it's going for.

Not played it since the one I had on the dreamcast, think it was Tokyo Highway Challenge here, but the moment I saw this, instant wishlist and can't wait!

Because it costs a lot of money and time to make multiplayer work. There are plenty of online racers, but there is only one TXR. I cannot wait to cruise around the loops of Tokyo while chilling to my own music and vibes.

I don't want to deal with an annoying login system, an interface that's always nagging me to play their way, and the drip feed of stupid cosmetics I don't want (I'm looking at YOU forza Horizon 4).

I just want to drive the highways, not battle the leaderboards while a battlepass tries to addict me to a game.

They may add it in later. Who knows. As a game tho you just don't get games this polished at launch anymore. Take your complaint and shove it. 10 years too late

not every game needs MP and if you use the not every game needs to be single player whale true you also have the choice to not buy it just like we have the choice to not buy it if it was MP only

I wonder if there is a community that shares their ps2 save data and then uses remote play together or something to play split screen online for the older games

so theres this cool thing called "singleplayer games" that used to exist. they would let you play your game before the internet was really a big thing. its pretty cool, you should try some!
