Tokyo Xtreme Racer
Gameplay Suggestions (Weather, traffic)
I like that Genki moved away from their previous games' censorship and stopped making the game feel more like a "legal" racing environment. Though there is still some of that aspect present, it is thankfully not like their previous games.

That being said, I would like if Tokyo Extreme Racer had more varied environment conditions. Here are some ideas and suggestions borrowed from their previous games or other studio's games.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3421673126

We have the technology now to allow for these:
  1. Variable weather conditions to allow for challenging driving skills based on it. (Driving during rain, snow, colder or hotter conditions to affect engine and tire performance. Previous TXR games already had this feature).
  2. Dynamic "Nameless Rival" (non-racer civilians) traffic density to add to gameplay complexity like blocking both lanes or adding obstacles.
  3. Time of day variable to allow more importance in time and day of the week for gameplay reasoning such as weather, visibility, traffic density, challenger opportunity (Racing during sunset versus early in the morning or sunrise hours- some Rivals would only be at night and some would only be during the day like other TXR games).
  4. Visibility for things like overcast weather, fog, afternoon lighting versus late AM. (Bring back headlight, foglight and tail light tuning to add to gameplay. Again, older TXR games already had this gameplay feature).
  5. Variable route changes like active construction or traffic accident blockage for more varied gameplay. (Dynamic re-routing).
  6. Roamers or active racers actually periodically racing on the road, not just cruising at slow speed. (Other random Rivals racing each other on the roads to add to the danger).
  7. More "Nameless Rival" varied models like busses, cargo trucks, work trucks or larger vans to provide greater impact penalty. (Less racing make cars as civilians, need more normal machines).

More gameplay story options would be great:
  1. Tuning shop stops like Gran Turismo. Where you can stop like a Parking Area to unlock specific day-locked upgrades like it being a "Legendary Tuning Shop" instead of just Legendary Tuner. Maybe tire upgrades, nitrous boosts or CP reward bonuses for using the shop, etc.
  2. Tuning parts unlock via shops. To add to gameplay, certain upgrade parts unlocks should only be available via Parking Area gossip or visiting specific shops. Like in real life, not every performance part can be purchased on a catalogue. Other Japanese games like Armored Core or Yakuza have this gameplay trope.
  3. Defeating certain bosses or after talking with enough people would unlock specific special cars. All cars shouldn't be gated by Credit Points wins or BP. Some you should want to progress in different ways. A special tuned, one-off Honda Civic or Nissan Skyline you could only unlock with CP after these milestones were reached.
  4. Challenger reputation format. Other TXR games had a fake social media- where Rivals and challengers would message at the board to try and talk to you. Maybe if you beat certain Rivals, they would send you a message- wanting a rematch and if you refuse or won't accept, would affect your Credit Points percentage wins. It is like early Armored Core games which made the world feel more alive. Imagine if Melancholic Angel messages you for her pre-nerf rematch and you lose. Your reputation would drop. Would add to the Parking Area gossip gameplay.
  5. More punishing crashes. If you or an NPC suffers a fatal crash after a certain speed, the match should be immediately forfeited. Maybe even hitting the civilians should give you significant penalty. (Maybe a fatal crash will default you to your home garage with a Credit Points or BP penalty.)
  6. Parked challengers. Like in many racing movies, it is a common trope for a challenger to park and wait on the side of the road with hazard lights, for a passing Rival. If you manage to drive past them, it will begin a challenge unexpectedly. It is different from Parking Area meets.
  7. Losing and winning streak. It should place more importance to win or lose for the day- things like being able to challenge more Rivals if you have not lost. You should also be prevented from challenging other Rivals if you have repeated losses. I know real racers in real life who wouldn't even speak to you or be seen near you if you have no social circles. It would add to the world here.
  8. Part tuning potential. Like in other TXR games, if you upgrade the wrong tuning part, it wouldn't necessarily add to performance. If you upgraded intake and exhaust for example without a computer tune, the performance wouldn't be so noticeable. Tuning parts brands also mattered, so you couldn't mix and match so readily.

There is so much room for possibilities with the computing power we have today as well as opportunity for online multiplayer. Genki can shut the other copying games out today if they just tighten up. :mhwgood:

A lot of these are pretty great ideas from previous games they've made, personally though I'm not sure I'd want day/night cycles unless it was kinda like TXRD and D2 Where night is where most of your rival battling is, but have daytime things like time trial battles and sponsor scouts to increase your earning potential. Could be another use for the PAs

Yes, many of these ideas were already in other TXR games. Daytime could pave way into "legal" sponsored time-attack racing so Genki can focus on more of the "night time" aspect of the story.

Sounds boring, if I'm being honest, but it's up to Genki.

I like the game as is myself, and only wish for more stuff to be added in from the older TXR games (especially from TXR 3, that game was peak for me).

its already boring having the environment be exactly the same every time you play it. The Rivals just mindlessly roam the roads slowly and do nothing. There is no interesting weather or traffic conditions to make boss fights easier or more difficult.

You just grind for hours for more CP or BP. Once the Rivals are beaten, nothing is unlocked or nothing happens. The Parking Area gossip story does nothing for progression. You should strive for more gameplay features! :jorji:

Here's the thing. It's Genki's choice.

For me, I just want Genki to stick to the formula and systems that made TXR what it is. I don't need them to be a NFS, Test Drive, Assetto Corsa, Forza, nor any other racing game, just TXR.

As is, I'm quite happy with the current game and at the most, would just want implementations of content and mechanics from older TXR games.

All things that would be neat.. I dunno if the thing I want goes against the very idea of the game itself but I want cops. The most fun I had with racing games were most wanted 2005 and carbon .. endless cop chases would be some great content outside of this 1vs1 racing loop.

I would like to suggest translation of cities / districs on license plate changer. It's really hard for people who don't understand Japanese to pick correct license plates to be able to race with specific opponent. ( I tried with google translator on phone but that takes way too much time. I suggest japan text and english or other in "( )"

Maybe an optional gameplay would make it interesting- maybe have the rewards be higher with police interference. Its also a part of freeway racing. Here's a video:

i like all of these. im pretty hopeful for the mod community. txr already has a nexus page with several mods. i see the traffic being one of the main mods to come soon. Not surprised if there are mods to start messing with the rival AI as well.

Now that, I'm definitely onboard with . The modding community would be great for adding in optional content or mechanics.
How about adding some rare high performance cars from Europe in TXR ? Like in Wangan Midnight and overall Mid night club style - Porsche 911 Turbo (or maybe RUF CTR "yellow bird", Ferrari Testarossa (Koenig Specials), Lamborghini Countach (Koenig Specials), Mercedes-Benz 500E (W124) or tuned by AMG -> E60 AMG, Lotus Omega, Alpina B10 Bi-Turbo (E34) etc... Mentioned european cars should be rare so only 1 or 2 owned by opponents to make players enjoy them and bring that special wibe (You know, that feeling when you drive stage 1 Corolla and see opponent's tuned Skyline GT-R R33 xD)

Yes, exotic and foreign cars are part of Japanese freeway racing culture. If Genki had the guts, they would add those in.

I think it would be good to be able to challenge multiple rivals from different teams simultaneously. Something like having 2 seconds between flashing the first car and each subsequent car flashed during this time will add them to the race and reset the 2 second timer. (Max 3 cars can be challenged.)

Currently I have an idea that for example Gemballa Avalanche would be perfect for some over powered boss as this car look so mysterious and powerfull :D
