Whats Genki been doing the last 18 years?
Just curious really. I thought they were defunct until a few weeks ago. I heard there were a few mobile games. But couldn't find much info, thought maybe someone just bought rights to use the name. So what have then done to stick around all this time?

They're essentially the go to outsourcing company.

And Maximum Tune series (4 onwards)

Ah ok, didn't realize that, I thought Namco made the Maximum tune games. They outsource to Genki?
Look at Mobygames' listing for Genki. They've been working on Wangan Midnight in secrecy (for Bamco) since the PS360 era.

I'd love it if Bamco would put Maximum Tune on home PC or consoles.
And how long has TXR2025 been in development? I’m seriously curious.
It was announced last Summer. Probably some time after Maximum Tune 6 (2018) or its annual revisions. Last version was released a year ago. They set up a new office floor with a "Hello!!" tweet in Feb 2023, almost a a teaser that they were back.

I've been keeping an eye on them for several years with hope that they would come back with a new TXR game.
WMMT and a mostly forgotten shutoku battle mobile game in 2017 that EOS'd in a year, but yeah WMMT is probably the reason they popped out from nowhere suddenly knowing how to make an optimized racing game in UE5

iirc the map in this game and some cars are ported over from previous work which is why it was able to be produced so efficiently

You know how some game studios under bigger publishers becomes just support studios for their more important developers like Criterion? Genki is kinda like that except they're independent. They've been helping with Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune for Bamco, a few mobile games based on anime franchises for Square Enix, and Yakuza 0 for Sega.

They also probably do some support for their parent company which is a pachislot company.

It's funny because I revisited the TXR franchise back in 2023 and after beating txr3 i legit was curious what genki was upto and remember seeing this post:

but thought nothing of it.
Wasn't expecting another TXR considering how small they are but I'm glad they are back.

That team picture suspiciously have the physical profiles of some of the rivals in the game lol
