Tokyo Xtreme Racer
Do you want to win without effort/analysis/knowledge, just speed up and that's it? lol
EDITED: for the sleeping brains that don't want to learn how to solve challenges and just want to "enjoy" (as if thinking a little would cost you fun KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK), simply accept that this game is not for you and go play other games, there are hundreds of games where you don't need to think about anything and Netflix does that too. Overall the game is pretty easy, but one or two challenges and people cry a lot!

EDITED2: And since I put a spreadsheet about the cars, a kind soul came and said that this is a lot to think about, lol... A SUPER SIMPLE SPREADSHEET, lol. I don't believe that a super simple spreadsheet like this could be something difficult to look at. The smart guy who complained about this, the higher up the better, right? Is it still difficult to understand? (There are exceptions, but in general that's it) wow, how difficult, lol. 99% of the game doesn't require you to know anything too much about the game and you simply win the races in the 1% of the game where you have to stop and analyze a little "ah, but I don't want to think, I just want to play to win everything without using my brain" lol

It's funny how nowadays people fill the forums to complain about the difficulty of the games instead of talking about how to solve the challenges. Before, the forums were full of questions about how to beat a certain opponent, but nowadays it's like "oh, it's too hard, it needs to be nerfed, I want to do everything no matter what and I still want to win everything without analyzing or thinking about anything... boohoo!!!"

I didn't think it was anything special. Yes, Melancholic is super strong, but it seems to me like a game feature that makes the player think and analyze how to beat her. I dare you to spend more than 10 minutes to beat her, but maybe that's too much for today's players who want everything easy.

I believe that some balance is possible, but certainly nothing that justifies all this whining from people who think they have to win every fight in the blink of an eye or who don't analyze the opponent they're facing and think they can just speed up and that's it. It's sad to see (but it's common these days) people who, instead of trying to win a challenge, cry so that the challenge will be easier. Sad!

Okay, okay, maybe this confrontation takes 20 or 30 times for some, but for others much less. I've seen a lot of people with only 4 attempts, but it's possible and it doesn't matter how many attempts, because that's the challenge, when you win it's satisfying. But do you prepare for that or do you just go for it?

ANALYZE the ROAD and the TRAFFIC where you'll face certain opponents, THINK a little, and don't just go speeding up hoping that everything will work out. This isn't a game where you just pick any car and speed away.

Do you know the LEGENDARY MECHANIC? It's for the toughest opponents in the game. I'm sure most people don't even know it's available every day in the game (after you've unlocked all the parking lots, just look for two wrenches flashing above the parking icons to find out which one it is).

People think that by doing anything you can beat everything in the game!

People get a crappy car like the RX8 (it's no good for this challenge) and think they have the best car, instead of analyzing their own choices they want to criticize the game's difficulty. The way to go is S13 or especially S14.

Do you level up your DEF perks as much as you can at this point in Driver Level so that your SP decreases more slowly when your opponent is in front, giving you more time to reach a curve or for your opponent to crash into another car or the wall, and also your ATK perk so that when you're in front you can take advantage of a crash and win the race?

Are you choosing the right tires? At most medium, obviously, never hard!

Do you change your gear ratio in the FINAL? Set it between 4.600 and 4.800 so you have more acceleration, and even losing top speed doesn't matter in several challenges, mainly because you wait for your opponent to make a mistake and the most you want is to stay behind your opponent as long as possible, but to have time to take advantage you need to be as close as possible, that's why acceleration is more important than top speed in most cases (I said most, not all).

And lastly, are you starting the challenge anywhere or are you analyzing the road (with more tight curves usually the best option) and traffic? If you see your opponent in a bad place, spend the days until he is in a more convenient place to confront him, and even then when you are behind him it might be interesting to wait a bit to start the battle by analyzing a curve with traffic after the battle has started.

I DOUBT 100% that everyone who is crying doesn't analyze even half of the things I mentioned here.

And this is not a game for "oh I want to play with the same car forever", this is a game to look for solutions to beat your opponents, it is not a racing game, but rather a game of battles between cars, this is a different game that breaks away from the sameness of 99% of racing games, but people don't want to analyze ANYTHING, they simply want to get any car and go speeding and think that way they will win everything... lol!!!

PS: take a look at this, it will probably help: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FEwxuy9AhArKuUCNod_wTANx0XNftN-JvRZBs0vj-rM/edit?gid=0#gid=0

Specs and data are fine but a lot of people just want to play a game and enjoy it.

For what it's worth, I've beaten the game and didn't need to resort to what you describe. But I'm good at games and find that most of the games that people claim are "difficult" really are not that bad when you compare them to most of what people had to deal with while playing quarter munchers and their home ports.

Not that you are wrong that analytics and and understanding of the core mechanics are valuable, but perhaps you're overthinking this and not seeing it from the same perspective of casual gamers. It's 2025 and game design is generally built around appealing to a larger audience. It's the same reason why fighting games have been adding "modern controls" which tend to piss off the grumpy old timers that are stuck in doing things the old ways and are unwilling to accept change.

BTW I've been gaming regularly since the NES but still appreciate modern QoL improvements and still love retro games.
I took her on with Trance Drive's Copen. Ran on hard tires and started a few races to wear down her tires, then finished her off using the dividers in that mid C1 area going north, cause I noticed her AI does *not* handle those very well

And who said that the game needs to be casual? That's what you're talking about, the game needs to be good, have interesting challenges, in fact 99% of the game is already easy and even so there are people complaining, and another thing, it seems that what I said was too much, but they are all easy things and quick to analyze, but explaining it in text it became long, but everything is very simple and if people can't stop for 10 seconds to analyze some details the problem is theirs and not the game's!

Good example, you found a solution and won, no matter how, but you won!

People cry too much for nothing!
I think most of us (must included) feel into the RX8 trap because we were looking at the speed number alone, and with the limited budget at that point in the game, had to take a suboptimal car against a hard boss. Still beat her (and the EA), but that was painful.

I mean, I went starter => BRZ => RX8, and the BRZ felt like the right choice.

So learning from this, what drove you to choose the S14?

The game does need a massive rebalance and is generally too easy through most of the game. This is a bigger problem than the fact that the last few bosses are "too difficult". A lot of this is a result of the fact that the game is incomplete and artificial barriers were placed in order to provide the public with at least some working game in Early Access.

This game is much easier, in my opinion, than the early Dreamcast and PS2 games.

But you're still overthinking this whole thing and most people want to buy a game to enjoy it and don't care about your spreadsheets and analyzing traffic patterns.

After Angel race I also swapped to the S14 for the last couple bosses. Overall it just felt like it had a higher potential than the BRZ and RX8 being capable of getting higher power and torque at that point made me think it would probably have a higher ceiling for the bosses on the higher speed sections

I personally only picked an RX8 later in the game because it was suggested by numerous people, but I don't care for its handling compared to other cars. There wasn't enough BP or endless grinding of CP to test every single car and experiment without a lot of time involved. Plus, you can't sell the customs (which I think is a poor design decision) as most are overpriced and not particularly great.

Yes, this is a normal "confusion", but it is normal in games like this and makes people talk about solutions, which is exactly what you are doing now, looking for solutions.

Yes, the S14 is the best option (with all tuning at maximum), and with the DEF and ATK perks at maximum too, but you will still need to save where to confront her, choosing where there will be curves and traffic (as for traffic, it is very random), but sometimes it is worth following her a little and waiting for a better moment to flash, and also, whether you like it or not, there is no way around it, but just like games where we "program" luck to be activated on our side, here it is the same, you need to optimize for it to happen and not simply wait for it to happen by doing anything.

About the cars, take a look at this (I also put it at the end of the post): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FEwxuy9AhArKuUCNod_wTANx0XNftN-JvRZBs0vj-rM/edit?gid=0#gid=0

Again, "overthinking", another GREAT EXAMPLE that people don't THINK ABOUT ANYTHING, people just want to "enjoy" the game lol.. And since when does thinking ruin any fun??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk This is so sad!!!

Games that last are games with depth, exactly games that make people THINK and ANALYZE things, debate solutions, because if none of that happens, they play the game and leave and that's it!

After this one I'll stop here!

You seem to be quite opinionated about other peoples' gaming habits and preferences as though they somehow need to match your own.

Also, games that last (nowadays) seem to be games with lots of content and are often mindless F2P and live service games. It's not 1999 (I do love the original TXR on Dreamcast though).
I beat the angel first try with the RX8.
tl:dr
