How to drive in manual?
I've always played these games in automatic, but the limited options at the start of the game is making me think about going manual. I don't know how to drive manual though. Say my car has a max torque of 4000rpm and a max power of 6000rpm, does that mean if I want to accelerate I should shift at 4000rpm, and at 6000 for top speed?

you want to shift at the beginning of the redline (so lets say the counter says 9000rpm, but redline starts at 8000, you shift there)

As 6Ball said you just need to shift up when the tachometer hits redline (where the meter is marked with red) and if your RPMs drop too much where you're having trouble accelerating or maintaining speed just downshift. Generally for tight corners you'll want to break, downshift, take the curve and apply your accelerator at the apex and shift back up on your way out or shortly after depending on how high the RPM can go on your car.

I'd say just switch to manual and take a few laps around the C1 without racing anyone and you'll get a feel for it.:csce_gabumon:

So, what does the red flashing mean? I've been shifting when the speedometer flashes red, and it seems to do ok. It still bothers me though, I've already found Playful Gentleman and Trance Drive, and even with manual they just blow me away. Both of them are in straightaway areas, and just don't seem to make any mistakes I can capitalize on.

Should just flash red when you're nearing redline. As far as Defeating stronger opponents on the airport route make your car is upgraded as much as it can be at your current stage. Probably only level 1 upgrades will be available at that point but they will help. If they're still gapping you you may need to adjust the final drive of your transmission under "Settings" on the root menu. Pushing it to the left will result in a higher top speed but slower acceleration so you might need to play a little catch up.

If that isn't enough you may need to step up to a different machine. The starting cars (particularly the 86 and the Swift turbo) will be pretty dominant in the C1 loop since they're very agile but they're not great straight line cars. I had good luck on my first run with the Subaru BRZ but until you complete the current content thats the only Subaru available but I've read here and other places that people are having a good experience with the Nissan and Mazda unlock trees.
I don't know what it is, but I can't seem to win anymore. I've tried switching to manual, and I've adjusted gear settings, and it never seems to be enough. I'm not even talking about boss cars. I lose to Roulette Guy no1, and other team leaders.

I just don't understand what the gear ratio numbers mean. Like, under settings>transmission it says my gear ratio is 82mph. When I go to change it, I moved the final gear most of the way over to the left (1.597). To the right of each gear it says 55/75/99/116/137/132 mph, but that never seems to be the speed I get. I don't think this Roadster has ever hit anything over 121mph no matter what I change.

There is a guide posted here on the community hub that goes into more detail on the gear ratios
This is less to do with your car and I think more to do with the graphics settings. I lowered some settings from Ultra to High and now my car accelerates twice as fast as it used to. I'm actually hitting the 220km/h top speed instead of just sitting at 201 forever like I was before. Really strange behaviour for a game.
Thanks for the guide, it seems like I wasn't misunderstanding anything. I'll just have to play with the ratios and see if I can get it to where it will hit 130mph.
