What cars have you used and how do they compare?

I started with the Miata and that took me all the way past the first group of bosses i then switched to the 180 sx and this was much faster than the miata, the turbo is awesome, used that to beat the Melancholy angel and have since switched to the RX-8 to try and finish the game out. RX-8 seems to clearly be the fastest available before you pass the xtra hard bosses.

what route did you guys take and what cars seem viable for what parts of the game so far?

Tried the AE86, Brz, and am currently on the 180SX. Overall, I have no issues with either of the mentioned cars, but I kept the 180SX, because it's turbo'ed and has 200 hp.

I can't say which is better, but just which I prefer to drive more.

But yeah RX8 for the entirety of 2nd half of the early access

Bought the BRZ right away and used it for about 90% of the game, even with the best parts available it couldn't handle any of the later bosses, i tried switching to the S14 but it performed about the same as the BRZ, then i switched to the RX8 and was able to finally beat the last few bosses with ease.

AE86 -> PS13 -> S14. The PS13 and S14 were pretty comparable, just a bit more torque and power in the S14. Adjusted gearing up or down depending on if I was racing on the Wangan or C1. Beat the game in the S14 and now rocking a fully upgraded R32. Night and day difference lol

Used the miata, swift, s13, gt86, rx8 and the r32. Id's say that the drivetrains feels identical. There's barely any difference in handling. You do feel some difference in weight and acceleration.

update: I just finished the game and now im in the RX-7 FD it is faster than my RX-8 however it has a lot more engine upgrades so they compare fairly well. im gunna grind out the cash to buy the Melancholy angel rx-8 and see if the numbers are legit.

Ok RX-7 FD is fully upgraded now and WOW this thing zooms i cant wait to have a reason to use this kinda build because it is absolutely rapid

Swift Sport (Sold to update) > GT86 (Sold to buy something with turbo) > S13 (Sold to buy an RX8 to beat Angel) > RX8 (Sold to upgrade the car I like) > Lancer Evo V > RX7 FCS3 (For two wanderers)

And in a future I will get more wanderer cars

No cap, I just now tried the Mazda route, and I'm surprised at how well the Miata performs. Just now got the Axela and despite not having any aero parts currently, it's pretty good for something naturally aspirated.

Swift -> Axela -> Atenza. FF all the way.
Overall, Atenza is a really decent alternative to RX-8, but takes a bit of gear tuning to become competitve

mx5 - brz - rx8 (fully upgrade, before you deafeat cinderela), the next will be lancer

Peoples think that RX-8 is a good car for two reasons, speed metric and because it is further ahead in the machine tree (for the initial part of the game), but in this game the most important thing is not top speed but acceleration, so what matters most is the Power/Weight ratio of the car, so RX-8 is not so good, of course, usable, but not so good!

Started on the Trueno. Changed to the Silvia K 91 and I'm pretty sure this will let me beat Cinderella after midnight then I'll change to a Skyline.

AE86 -> S13 -> RX8, after beating Cinderella, I've now sold the RX8 and picked up a Supra and RX7. Trying to fill up the garage with some cool cars now (Chaser, R32, etc.)
