Tokyo Xtreme Racer
Bad Changes to Progression System
This progression system is effed and I regret this purchase. I've played TXR0 and TXR3 all the way through tons of times. Now I'm stuck in this one because 1) The upgrade parts are locked behind the B tokens which are 2) locked behind winning the first challenge of a new racer which 3) are nonexistent now that I've beat them all but I can't try another car because 4) the four(4!) cars I'm allowed to buy from the dealer are 10x more expensive than TXR3. It's what they call in shmups a death spiral.

I've bought all the Tuning "unlocks" and set my gear ratios. I have $900k but nothing to spend it on. I can't progress since there were only 3 teams made available to me on C1. What the ding dang golly gee whiz shucks.

Feel your pain, getting chopped by the rx7 team leader & the gearing doesn't seem to behave as it likes to think it does, or tells us that it does. Assume my progression is stuck behind that. The dude spun me as I was blocking him when he spawned in to race me. Disclaimer, I finished these titles on Dreamcast & PS2 with no issues in my youth

And NOTHING says Xtreme Racing like a 0-100 in 18 seconds after upgrades
They should add a respec tree sort of thing where if you respec a car you bought, you cannot drive it, same thing with upgrades
>buys Early Access game

The progression system is absolutely pointless and moronic. You want to upgrade your car? Sorry, there's a limit to that. Want to buy a new car? Sorry, there's a limit to that. Want to save for upgrades or for a better car when you finally unlock it? Sorry, there's also a limit to that. And the limit it's not just perks: it's a hard limit that requires you to beat boses that sometimes just rocket away into the distance and you literally can't buy a better car or improve the one you have even if you have the money. Just because.

People forgetting that in TXR3 cars and parts were tied to rivals and wanderers, more than half of which did not show up until 10 hours later in the second half of the game, with some of the wanderers having prerequisites that nobody figured out until a decade after release, with two still having unknown prerequisites with their appearance in your playthrough being mostly luck.

@bikeking8 First, this title is early access, Second ingame currency ist not US Dollar ... Third, You can look for objectives on left side on map selection screen before departing into the night. Drop me a DM if u still need help

A large part of the TXR games is figuring out when you need to jump to a better car. For example, I started with the Mazda and as soon as I could jump to the Subaru BRZ, I did that because that car stock was just as good as the Mazda was.

I imagine I'm going to have to jump to something else fairly soon because the BRZ is probably not going to be viable all the way to the end of the game, but it's been a very solid choice thus far.

OP is talking about having everything they can get unlocked and not being able to progress. I can see how you could softlock yourself especially in the early game, prices are ridiculous and you barely get any upgrades. The slow af mileage unlock system of previous titles was faster than this game...

I have to disagree with the criticism here. If all the car upgrades were unlocked from the start, there would be no progression. The game would feel like forza horizon, where any car can go from level 0 to level 100 in 30 seconds. That completely robs the player of any sense of progression and struggle. The story of this game is about rising to be the top. Its not about buying your way to the top.

I guess we gonna need multiple save slots huh...
Are you sure found all your opponents yet? Have you searched the parking areas?

Opponents in this game can be found in parking areas, if you see a VS pop up, there's hidden team members there. I've played the other games before also and the progression is fine with this one, you just need to look more into the other areas of the game.

Don't forget you can literally race the traffic/taxi/box cars to get some quick cash also.

The money is the progression: your comparison makes no sense because races have much lower payouts here than in FH5 and there's no wheelspins/super wheelspins giving you hundreds of thousands of credits and the rarest cars from Lvl 1 onwards.

Stop justifying bad game design, the progression system sucks and just ruins the fun, particularly when you have bosses who can drive the cars you can't buy and smash you with upgrades you can't get regardless of how many races you've won or money you've earned.

Thanks to those with the constructive advice, I'll try the parking areas for additional rivals to unlock as much as I can before hitting the "Boss Wall" lockouts. And yes, I am aware it's early access version 0.0000000001, but out of the gate there's some odd decisions given the established game mechanics throughout the series.
