[Discussion] Engine Tuning Feels Kinda Underwhelming in Tokyo Xtreme Racer. What is your Opinion?
I’ve been enjoying Tokyo Xtreme Racer, but I wanted to bring up an issue that’s been bugging me the engine tuning system and its horsepower outcomes. Not gonna poke at the suspension tuning and ride height being adjustable before camber I’ll leave that for another day.

Whether the game is set in 90’s Tokyo, Future Tokyo, or now Tokyo, the engine tuning undermines all worlds tuning potential. The horsepower gains from each stage of engine tuning feel way too low. For example, an R32 GT-R, with a Max level engine, struggles to hit 400PS. That’s crazy when you consider that back in the actual 90s, these cars were already capable of 500+ HP with the right mods, there are plenty of cars to select in that list that have the same problem. Not to mention the cars that exist naturally aspirated in the existing cars list that in previous Tokyo Xtreme Racer IP had the ability to receive turbos and get faster.

In the spirit of Wangan (Literally the people who made the Wangan Midnight games) tuning where people were chasing 200+ MPH and pushing cars to their limits I think the current tuning restrictions are too conservative. I’m not asking for every car to hit Need for Speed or Forza Horizon levels of 1,500+ HP insanity that are fun within their own right but are not what this game is, but a fully maxed-out build should be getting closer to 800HP or more on certain platforms. Engine swaps would be cool too, as a lover of the franchise I think that is a sane progression or improvements that would make it more fun. I will keep playing the game every update and on full release hopefully it even has an online.

What do you guys think? Should the devs bump up the tuning potential?

I agree. Older TXR games even had manufacturer tuning parts you had to mix and match to get the maximum output. Even had dyno graphs with ECU tunes. I would like that gameplay back instead of this numb design.

I think we only have part of the tuning tree available in early access since we are about halfway through the game progression, and we will get several more levels of upgrades when more story content is released.
i'm just waiting for engine swap feature, i sunk lots of hours on older TXR playing with it

Hello? Engine level 6 is not the MAX engine level in the game. The game is only half released. The current Max engine level is 9. The only current way to use that max engine level is to use Cheat Engine or another modding app. The R32 with level 9 is well
Over 600PS. Not to mention Intake, exhaust max level is currently 6 again with Cheat engine..etc not level 4. Thats only with the EA version.
My opinion is that this is the first half of the video game and is not at all representative of what a fully maxed-out car is going to look like. The early access version is basically a long demo version of the game.

I had no clue they would even leave in the stuff in the background that would let you manipulate the part level past 6? In that case I have to give it a try and see how it feels.

I remember this system in the Kaido based titles but not the Shutokō Battle ones
the cars are definitely being held back. The stock horse power numbers should be pushing the cars faster objectively. I like the physics overall but it feels like the air in game is very viscous and holding cars back. best way i know how to explain it.
