Initial D is also a good read/watch. It references a different racing sub-culture but the mentality is the same. The Japanese Street Racing sub-culture in the 80/90's was something else.

The first should be mandatory viewing. That one actually inspired Wangan Midnight.

Fun fact: the first movie was originally banned in Japan due to the topic of illegal street racing. Which is why the following movies have a somewhat anti street racing message.

yes and why games like Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero or Drift 2 was censored in Playstation 2 releases. They wanted to make an illegal street racing game genre but had to make it look like sponsored legal organizational races and included aspects of that. So you barely saw normal traffic on the roads or much semblance of street racing story.

Now we are in a new world and they don't have to answer to certain publishers anymore, releasing on Steam. I hope Genki can take advantage of that.....

Yeah, genki is a long partner to help namco develop wangan midnight maximum tune. Now they back to develop TXR.
