Multiplayer joining problems? Firewall ideas here!
Anygame I try to join, either through the browser or direct IP, gives me a inactive or bad address or full error. anyone else having this problem?

EDIT: also tried through hamachi, same problem...

Who are you trying to join? Do you know if the server is still up? People on Twitter may have quit playing & the server might not be up anymore... it is best to try joining people shortly after they start a game (and the server is listed more green and/or you see a new tweet to @3089game).

I'm trying to join my friends server. it's currently up, and he is on it, we are in vent with each other. I get the error with any game I try to join

Hrm... did your friend forward port 3089 as needed? Windows firewall isn't blocking anything, or Norton Internet Security?

Yeah, ports are forwarded. The server is functioning fine. other people can join it. The problem seems to be with me specifically. We also tried via hamachi, no dice :\

Me and my friend were having the same issue. The fix was he ran the .exe as admin which prompted Windows Firewall to ask for permission to allow 3089 past it. Once he allowed I could join his game.

Thanks for the post, Poof! Hopefully other people can try that & have success! You may also be able to go into Windows firewall and enable that port manually...

If you're running windows 7, you can type in Windows Firewall with Advanced Security at the start bar to get to where your inbound rules are - find 3089 and make your firewall rules there. I tend to choose the port specifically and then allow on all protocols. It's not the most secure way to do it, but it seems to be the most functional.

Also you can go to windows firewall and then inbound rule and make a new rule for that port.

ive opend ports, ran as admin, uninstalled java/reinstalled, dissabled firewall/made firewall allow it. still nota, im geting a crash when i try to make a game, also its telling me the port still needs to be forward, is it udp or tcp, i have mying setup for both.

edit: turns out i had to run singleplayer after launching as admin, than that windows firewall pops up, loaded up my single player game( wont work if i go to find game) and blam, buddy is able to join

I was looking through my firewall list, but I can't even see 3089 in my list. Every other game I have downloaded is showing. Is there a special way to find it? I have windows 8.

You may have to add 3089 manually.. looks like people have had success running the game as "admin" and accepting the firewall prompt. You should be able to run it as "admin" by right-clicking the 3089.exe file and selecting "Run As Administrator"

im still having that problem joining servers even though i have disabled firewall

I've done everything thomas has said, even in his edit, and i cant join anyone.
Since likely everyone here is behind a router, go check that. Usually UPNP settings work for port forwarding, but if it's not on or it doesn't, you'll have to manually port forward. I find setting the computer to a static IP helps to (you set your mac address to say 192.168.1.50 say if you're on a Linksys), disconnect/reconnect to your router and check if you have that IP, THEN port forward. Port forward isn't reliable when computers are switching local IPs.

Im having trouble joining games after i have the ports forwarded.

I opened ports 3079:3089 and verified they were open with the port checking tool from portforward.com .

When i load the game it still says i need to forward the port at the bottom of the multiplayer menu and when i try to join a game they all come back as unjoinable.

It took me a while to get the hang of the game and i do like it but i would enjoy it more with some multiplayer options.

On another note, I had no difficulties mapping everything to my controller with xpadder and its playing great.
