I am confused by the reviews
I enjoyed a previous version of FOF and I'm looking forward to playing this one, but I'm put off by some of the reviews which include complaints about:
1) crashing
2) empty tables
3) unrealistic results
4) lost save files
5) poor information layout

I've also read reviews saying all is great.

Have you experienced any of these problems? Have you played through several seasons without giving up due to bugs?

Look at the dates of the reviews that talk about items 1,2, and 4. Anything in them related to crashes, empty tables, and lost save files is simply outdated. The release was on 10/31-11/1 (shortly after midnight Eastern, so the date depended on where you live,) and there have been three significant patches since then, which I *think* ended up addressing all of those types of issues. Those folks gave up wayyyyyyy too early. Solecismic Software has been doing this for 25 years and if those types of issues exist in a release, they have ALWAYS addressed them in an extremely timely fashion. As for the other two items, some people like the stats, some don't. Some people like the information layout; others don't. That ends up being more personal preference. Hope that helps.

I play out most my games so I don't make a lot of progress ...for what it is worth. The only thing I have seen in that list was I lost the data for my first save going into season 2 and had to start over. That was before any patches.

Poor info layout just took a little time to get used to. It actually isn't that bad after you get used to it.

I play with user created NFL mod and sometimes it feels a little contrived.. I don't think it is the game engine though.

I have not had any of the first 4 issues you mentioned (about 20 seasons played), but am still struggling with poor UI - this is my first ever FOF so I am sure it is no issue to veterans of the series. A lot of very basic info that is hard to find and simple stuff like when you go back to the previous screen it resets so you have to redo all filters etc

If you like stats-based sports management games, you will probably like this one. There are things that can and should be improved, but as others have shared, the developer is experienced and the foundation is solid. It helps to read up on NFL budgeting and salary cap issues; especially the mysterious "dead money". But I've been enjoying the game so far. I hope the developer continues to improve this release.

The UI is pretty new to all of us actually. Took me forever to figure out if I made the "manage team" screen my main screen .. I could at least start to figure out the web of playing out a week. Takes some getting used to and I am still finding new things.

I have really been enjoying the carrier I have going. I made a 1965 mod with the 1978 schedule and team alignments. Took some time to get my rosters adjusted with the historical players added in the base year and future drafts (which I am up to 1978 in). So far the Colts beat the Packers in Super Bowl I, and the Packers beat the Colts in Super Bowl II in OT. The Colts are unbeaten in two years of regular season play. Johnny Unitas was MVP of SB1 and Bart Starr of SB2. Just as I guess it should be.

My point is: it took a lot of work to get the files set with logos made etc.... but two seasons in with it has been a blast. No problems at all. The Colts are in Baltimore, the Cardinals in St. Louis, teams have their old colors... you can do a lot with a little effort and create the universe you want.

Will you be sharing your universe, I know that I would be very interested in starting a career with this period of the NFL.
