BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

Is Hakumen overpowered in this game?
I got this game in a recent Steam sale, as I wanted to get into this series and while Central Fiction has more characters, the sheer amount of characters (and wildly diverse playstyles) made it difficult for me to find one that I liked, so I figured I'd start from the beginning instead.

I'm playing through Ragna's arcade mode, figuring that (much like Ryu in Street Fighter) he'd be the easiest to use as he's the main character. However, I'm hitting a brick wall in the second-to-last fight against Hakumen.

He seems to have a massive range and speed advantage, including a super move that covers most (if not all) of the screen and drains half of my health in one shot (which he seems to be able to use at least twice in quick succession). It doesn't do damage if I block it, but that doesn't matter when he uses it while I'm knocked down or in the middle of getting hit by another attack.

I'm just not sure what I'm supposed to do here, and I could use some advice. I get close to taking out his health bar, and occasionally win a round, but his apparent advantages (coupled with the fact that the only one of Ragna's supers that I can reliably pull off is a grab attack that takes two steps to use and drains his entire super bar) make this really frustrating for me.

In my experience he doesn't do well against pressure, but I only ever play Taokaka. I usually wreck him.

You are correct

My experience with him is that he's certainly challenging to fight with, but not really overpowered per se?

Like slandy said he's not good with pressures so maybe do things more on the offensive side? And try blocking when you can cuz he does deal a f#ckton of damage haha

I'm almost certain that the second to last and last fights are in Unlimited which basically means he gets infinite Infinity: Retribution (pun intended). Recently I played as a character I was bad at (Bang) spammed D to the 9th fight and got stuck on him. I found the best way tp beat him to be crouch guarding until he aerial dashes towards you and then getting him in a combo while he's vulnerable. If you think Hakumen's have fun with Nu, that battle is a nightmare.

In story mode, in some paths the enemies can be their unlimited versions, this happens with ragna vs hakumen, hence the huge damage he does, well he already does ridiculous damage, and with unlimited, even more

Yes, hakumen is overpower in the story mode, at the last fight you in with half of life and Hakumen has the turbo charged, for winI must jump over him and make aeric combos

I know, is a little ♥♥♥♥♥♥ response, but this game -like all the other Arc games- need practise. Try so figure out some mix-ups that work against the CPU.
I love the Mix-up in general of Jin, the only 3 bad matches he have are vs Rachel , Carl and Nu, which have pretty much the 1/2 screen control if you know how to use.
If you are in the Arcade Mode focus on winning with the AF (with Ragna OFC). Try to use all the special combos the game let you use. Don't wait too much when he's low life or his heat will increase drastically (if he's not already in ultimate).
Also, keep pushing. The win will came.

Hakumen is pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ though, and you need to play against him in every single Arcade mode, which means you have to do complex things with characters you've played once or twice. On Noel or Jin, characters I'm good at, Hakumen's a breeze, but Bang I have no idea how to use, so I just cheese through with Crouch guard>Hakumen aerial dashes>???>Profit

The last one is tedious AF since is unlimited and have some incredible combo (9x base single tap) and the best DD in the game.
Do we have to beat all the arcade mode without dying?

The battle with Hakumen in arcade mode is actually Unlimited Hakumen, basically a boss version of Hakumen with various unfair buffs. Normal Hakumen is more balanced. You can unlock the Unlimited versions of every character by completing their arcade modes (if I remember correctly), and they're a lot of fun to mess around with.

Too bad Central Fiction got rid of them outside of a few AI only ones.
