Diff lock damage
Who came up with this idea? Just a wild guess here but i see that whoever thought it was a good idea never actually did research on the subject. Diff locks whether they be mechanical, air or electric do not do damage to your truck nor do they increase fuel consumption and if they did the amount would be so minimal it would be impossible to notice it.T he very idea of making it an update is nearly hilarious. Look im all for making the game harder because i find that to be more fun such as maybe adding engine options like a big block that can pull more logs eaiser because of the torque but uses more fuel than a small block, but diff lock damage?

The only damage a diff lock is going to do is either to the road/terrain or your tires. Granted there will be damage if you don't use it correctly like in a rock crawling situation a diff lock will break your axles if your attempting to turn big tires on say stock 1/2 ton axles. The easy way to fix that is get 1 ton axles or chomolys or learn how to not break your axles. Those scenarios are based off regular trucks that we all know Gm, Ford, Dodge, Jeep, Toyota, Nissan etc... in this game we're rolling with the heavy duty stuff using the 2.5 ton and 5 ton rockwell axles maybe even potal axles and whatever else. Anybody that has been an actual avid off-roader fully understands breaking or even hurting those axles isn't exactly a walk in the park.

I say this update needs a very quick fix because it literally makes no sense, now i am not trying to make the game easier but a little more realistic and terms of being both realistic for a game and true to real life.

Let's add better updates like tire pressure changes, drivetrain changes/upgrades, more maps, different tires for different terrains, more terrains like sand and snow because anybody who off-roads knows sand and mud and rocks and snow are 4 very different things. More along the lines of cabela's off-road but keep the logging part because obviously the the basis behind the game.

The devs said diff lock damage (artificial difficulty is all it really is) is here to stay.

Dude, you paid money for tech demo, not a game. Relax.
They can't make a decent camera in 6 month (ffs, i'm not a gamedev but how hard is to place camera in position above front axle and disable "camera AI"?) - and you want tire pressure, upgrades, serious physics changes? LOL.

i was kinda hopeing they simply damage the "locks" and they have a seperate bar for damage. once they gone you drive with no locks.
good i dont play the beta, but if locks in the wrong place damage the "whole" truck, its kinda stupid i think. lets see how this turns out :D

I simply said lets get better updates and those were examples.... and the camera works fine granted its not the best but it would be one of the last things i would care to be updated. This whole thing was a simple suggestion to diff lock damage and how it should actually be, because it makes absolutely no sense. Actionjackson i see kind of what your saying and in an actual scenario lockers do break especially your cheap typical factory junk ones say like gm's govlock also known as the govbomb but any nice aftermarket one like detroit or yukon don't really break themselves they end up breaking everything else i.e yokes, u-joints, axle shafts, lockout hubs, transfer cases etc.... The game has so much potential but it just seems an update like this just put them back 10 steps and gained nothing.

I haven't played in a week or so, so this is the first I've heard of this. Lol @ the devs.

i wrote in my feedback thread that they could up the difficulty as easy as doubling the points needed per objective, the worse the route you drive gets the harder the game gets. there is build in dynamic difficulty the game barely uses.
and now this weird lock damage to add difficulty, questionable idea.

Casual mode with no damage is far too easy. Lock damage (and only having the locks available in 1,1+ and R) is the only thing that makes hardcore even kinda hard. Casual mode you barely need to pay attention. Turn the locks on, slip it into AWD and put your foot down.

If you want to try needing to take more trips it is very simple to reduce the amount of points a load represents.

increased environmental damage, increased fuel consumption, inability to rescue vehicles to garage, lower amount of refueling at garage, diff lock only in manual gearbox mode, winch points only on front of vehicle (except for 7130 rescue crane), all make (or would make) hardcore harder without implementing ridiculous diff lock damage.

i for one sure hope it doesn't make it out of beta.

I agree diff lock even in hardcore mode is ridiculous, I have driven rigs for 10 years now and never had damage done by the diff locks. I have engaged them doing almost 100kph on the highway going up a snowy hill cause pulling b trains full of wood chips is heavy as hell and halfway up you will loose at least half that speed and close to the top you might be doing 25kph. With that said the last thing you want to do is engage diff lock while your wheels are spinning cause that's when you could cause damage, so for the game to make you put them on once your spinning your tires in the mud cause otherwise you will take damage is ass backwards

Something I thought that would add another layer of difficulty to the game is making it so that you can't just get infinite fuel and repair points like you can now. But instead you have to pay for fuel and repair points with money you start with. And additional money could be aquired from delivering logs to objectives. I think working within a budget could really make things more interesting.

Yup, this diff lock damage thing is stupid. I gues it would be realistic if you would damage diff lock by making turns on tarmac, right ? But now its plain unrealistic, and they even adedd the effect that every time you do damage to a diff the truck automaticly stops, that adds to the sillynes.

Btw, I don't think there are portal axles in this game.

If you want to make the game more dificult, there's many other ways other than a phoney diff lock damage. Come up with a few new map sections, and a real shifter with proper gearing.

Diffs are locked all the time in casual and in hardcore they're toggleable but then there's that stupid damage. Doesn't make sense to me, specially when you can toggle AWD and diffs even at full throttle and no damage from it.
What would make things more interesting is proper limits to every vehicle's "dangerous water level" and working snorkels. If your vehicle drinks too much water it would need to be towed to garage. Also dynamic temperature to engine? You couldn't floor it all the time in mud/slow speed. Then possibly two modes for throttle, one that revs engine, increases fuel consumption and makes engine run warmer, other which is easier on rpm's and saves fuel but you couldn't use it in steeper hills/heavy mud or with heavy load.

Or how about different/"oversized" wheels that wouldn't let you necessarily use 1+ gear(because more power needed to spin them) but gives better traction in mud. Though as I understand 1+ is like overdrive/direct gearing and has less powerloss.

Also ability to refuel trucks with the fuel from other trucks would bring more realism. And there's jerry can decorations and else, they should work as a backup fuel. Then you get ridiculous damage from twigs and axles kissing mud...are these trucks made from plastic!? There should be separate(and realistic) damage for different parts of the truck. I'm not talking about realistic visual damage necessarily but realistic damage to mechanical parts of the truck.

Also deep water could cool down the engine a litttle bit

Yeah i don't like the unrealistic differential lock damage either.
