i suggest you park a "support" truck somewhere close on an island where you're about to cross. having a winch nearby is very helpful

Why can't you figure it out yourself? I did. It's way more satisfying than asking others to figure games out for you and then just following their instructions.

Because Ive already done 4 attempts and its getting frustrating. Just as IRL, youd ask your fellow drivers for info. Call it immersion if you will :)

Edit: And seeing the chart provided it makes sense I was having trouble. It basically random paths with no obvious logic tied to them. Trial and error for hours on end - not for me.

There's nothing random or trial and error. I haven't played the River map yet since I only just started this game, but I'm sure it works the same way as on the Coast map. If you look at your map at the water sections you'll see brown spots on the water. Those are shallow areas where it's safe to drive through.

And if you look at the map provided here, many places are not indicated.
