How to open doors in alien ship

I finally reached the alien ship through the portal. But how can I open the doors left and right in the portal room of the ship??? Spent almost an hour an got no clue...would appreciate to get help with this or is it some kind of bug???

There should be a door to the left of the entrance area that opens and closes on it's own. Inside that room there is a reflector item that you can equip and use to bounce the energy ball projectiles into the little sensors above the doors.
