Multiplayer Startup issues
Hi, I just bought the Call of Duty World War II pack yesterday in the sale and I wanted to try Call of Duty 2 multiplayer but all I get is a black screen. Tried to close the game with Ctrl+Shift+Esc and Ctrl+Alt+Del nothing worked I had to restart my pc. Singleplayer works fine but multiplayer just black screen. Is there a way to fix it? @ 15 Jun 11:00am

EDIT1:
@ 1 Sep 08:36pm

FIX BY: KOOLGUY® (PT), @ 19 Jun 12:24pm :

Here is the fix, at least, it worked for me.
1- Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty 2
2- Right click CoD2MP_s.exe and select Properties
3- Go to Compatibility
4- Tick the X in Exec. this prog. in compatibility for:
5- Change compatibility mode to Windows XP (Service Pack 3)

Note: To some people, it will work now, and you can launch Multiplayer, without doing the other steps. Or to other people, it will say "Failed to find Steam.". No worries, just follow these steps:

6- Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
7- Find Steam.dll and copy it.
8- Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty 2
9- Paste Steam.dll there.
10- Enjoy your crappy ♥♥♥ 1.3v

EDIT2:
@ 1 Sep 09:01pm

FIX BY: Cesarty, @ 28 jul 1:18am :

Ok, I fixed it (well, I think so, I didn't have any crash for half an hour):

1 - Properties on Call of Duty 2 in Steam Library:
Verify Integrity of Game Cache and uncheck Steam Overlay.

2 - Go to Steam --> Settings --> In-Game and uncheck Steam Overlay.

3- Make the Steam.dll and Steam2.dll thing.
Copy both files from Steam folder to Call of Duty 2 folder. COPY, not PASS.

2 - Put DirectX 7 in options inside de game.
No Directx9 (it has some bugs), and of course nothing of Directx 10 because the game has a lot of problems with it.

3 - Properties of files COD2MP_s and COD2SP_s on Call of Duty 2 folder:
Compatibility with Windows XP SP3 and put both of them running like administrator.

4- Turn ON at least one microphone device (I put the others off):
Panel control--> Sound --> Recording Devices

5 - (I did this so I don't know if it's dispensable or not):
Connect another microphone or headphone to the computer on the usb port for microphones.
Usually people have two, one green where you put your headphones and another like pink where you put your microphone. (I put another headphones on the pink and it worked... so I think it doesn't need to be a mic)

Also I found that some people fixed it by turning OFF all de Recording Devices, but when I did that, I ran the game and instantly I had the problem with COD2MP_s stopped working or something like that, so I turn ON only one microphone device on Panel Control-->Sound and everything was ok.

Well, hope this works for someone else. If I find more solutions I will put them here.

Sorry for my bad english.

Yes and yes to both. But those ain't the problem. It's how do I find this keycode I should of gotten, and where do I find it?

It never asked for a CD-Key on my end and it worked fine, no Idea why it is diffrent in your case. For the CD-Key try this: Rightclick on the Entry of CoD2 in the steamclient. Is there a entry like "Display Productkey"? It might be called different, I don't run the client in english. It doesn't show up in my version but then again I don't have this problem. Otherwise try contacting the steam support.

Nope no "Display Product Key" When I right click on the game, in my Library. I don't know why this is such a big issue. I don't get this with the Original game.

Launch multiplayer from Steam, or from the folder, not from the singleplayer menu.

When I do that I get..."CoD2MP_s.exe has stopped working" and I can click on "Show Program Details" which will show what's wrong. No matter what I try this game doesn't want me to play it. lol

SteamUI.dll is in the main Steam folder. And that fix putting the SteamUI.dll in CoD2 main folder didn't help me. I swear this and World at War do not want to work, Multiplayer wise for me.

in the cod2 folder i pasted steam2.dll. is this the right thing?

I tried that, and it didn't start Multiplayer for me.
