Call of Duty 2

Call of Duty 2

What did "allowing downloads" on Multiplayer server do to me?? AND HOW CAN I FIX IT ??
Someone please help me out. I was a long time MoH player on Mac before gamespy went down. So.......I bought this game for my old i3 HD 3000 for multiplayer.........and I see a lot of people playing on the servers. I joined one ( Sparta ) .......and it started downloading all of this ......WHAT IS THIS ?? My online profile name is now Sparta something........I just don't understand this at all ? I know I'm brand spanking new to steam games, but I'm gonna return this game to steam for my 10bucks if I can't figure this out. I should have been able to set my own profile..........why all of the download screens before you join each server ?? Gamespy wasn't at all like that ......! Is this necessary to join these servers? Can I get rid of all of this downloaded stuff and go back to the original game .......AND MY ORIGINAL PROFILE ?? Any help or explanation would really be appreciated.

Uh...you're gonna have to dig through your files and delete the newly installed ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Please explain? My multilplayer page looks like from the "300" movie or something. Why would any game "allow" downloads? Are these mods necessary to play on a specific server, .......or is it just malware ? Because if it's just malware, then PC gaming is going to die soon. How can Steam attract new gamers (or old ones) if it allows this.........and the tutorials are non existant.

you can get rid of it. Only when you enter you will have to download again and it will happen the same.
You have to go to the folder and eliminate everything from SPARTA. It's not worth it.

Yeah, I'd avoid joining servers that make you DL stuff.

{ " You have to go to the folder and eliminate everything from SPARTA. It's not worth it." }

How do I do that, exactly? And will turning off "accept downloads" from host servers not allow me to join that server to play, or if you can still join the server, will I just be at a huge disadvantage because I don't have the mods? Why did you say......"It's not worth it"...? I just don't understand the downloading scripts that I saw. On Gamespy servers, (MOHAA) you'd never see that stuff. Is it just cheats and malware?

Thanks for responding BTW.... oh, and Kumeloski...........every server I've joined so far......3 of them.......was downloading stuff ??

I'm trying to decide if this game's multiplayer is still like that that I originally played on Xbox some many years ago.......or if it's just all modded to the point that it resembles some other game much more. I wanted to play COD2.......not modern warfare 3. That was the point. If the mods make this game so much different, and cheats are the norm.........please let me know. It won't be worth my time, ........having to play in Win service pak 3 on bad graphics........(uggh) .........for a poor game, and I still have the old PC disc campaign anyway......just lost the key code, lol.

No, some of it is vanilla. I found a few vanilla servers.

does anyone know if I can do a "clean" reinstall of this game,......or how to delete all of these "allowed download" multiplayer maps/files? My main problem......assuming these downloads don't contain malware and are in fact benign.......is that I can't seem to change my multiplayer profile options back to what I want them. Is this what nAf,m said when they said "is isn't worth it to keep Sparta server data"? Please help me you guys, I'm new to Steam altogether. Health problems have put me indoors when I would much prefer to be outdoors. So here I am.

hey this is normal call of duty 2 stuff from way back in the day it used to be like this. ive had this game from before the latest patch was released. to uninstall everything or the selected mod you need to find the mod folder or basically to delete everything in the 'main' folder of your call of duty 2 install directory that doesn't have "iw and a *number here* the iw_ and iw00 like files are the vanilla version files

theses mods are just simple mods not malware and its how zombies started! if you want to be sure just uninstall and reinstall from steam. make sure your call of duty 2 folder is gone when you install.

thank you so much Albert. You're the only one who's responded on this in a way that is helpful. I checked the *sticky* files but couldn't find anything. Should I backup my games to a flash drive or disc, .......or can I always re-download them from steam w/my Steam account ?

Any server you play on within cod2 will have downloads, it isnt malware.. Its required to play on the server you join

No. I've found servers with no downloads required.

I had exact issue today, i ended up with all this Sparta server stuff and it also changed my Cod2 menu screen to a 300 movie theme, i just went into the "Main" folder in my COD2 folder and removed everything created with a date from today.

Then reloaded the game and all was fine, i then reset all my settings in game including my Player name which was now "Sparta...blah blah"... then finally turned downloads off.

Im fine with downloads and game mods..but why the need to change all the game menu and player names...seems very excessive and intrusive!!
