Looked for this before and there are only iw files. Idk what those do but nothing but that
It’s in the “players” folder within the “main” folder. The single player config file is called “config.cfg” and the multiplayer config file is called “config_mp.cfg”
For me, the players file doesn't exist in the main file because all that exists is iw files and they're all numbered but looking at them does nothing when opened in notebook. Looks like garbled nonsense.
Now that I think about it, I know why they don't exist. Those files aren't created until your first launch. So, if the game wont even launch, you won't have those files. Derp, sorry.
Huh, that's strange since I've put a good amount of time into it. Perhaps my profile was corrupted? Do you think removing the game from steam, completely deleting all of its files and then buying it again would work? It's only 20$ last time I checked so it isn't a huge loss if I do that. My theory would be taking it off my steam and basically making it start all over, and hopfully resetting any resolution issues in the process. It's a risky idea but I'd like to know another opinion on the matter.
Have you tried verifying the cache?
Yes, multiple times. Uninstalled and re installed the game multiple times, copying the Steam.dll file some people mention and still nothing. I've exhausted every option that I could think of.
Do you have the same issue as I described in the original post?
I finally got into menu of the game and interestingly, it had nothing to do with all the solutions everyone is trying to give - no steam.dll copiyng, config edit, even changing registry.
What solved my problem is changing graphic procesor you are running the game with. I know there are many problems with laptops that have dedicated nvidia and second integrated card.
When the game was started with integrated card it crashed, when i switched settings in nvidia control panel to start game with dedicated card, the game worked.
So try to right click CoD2SP_s > run with graphics processor > dedicated graphic card. When you do this, next error will probably pop out, so choose open Nvidia control panel button and when you are editing 3D settings, choose "add", find COD 2 singleplayer and at step 2 choose your dedicated graphic card, don't forget to save changes and now try to run Cod2SP_s as administrator.
Hope it helps, best of luck!
How exactly would I go about doing that? Right clicking on that COD 2 file doesn't bright anything different up aside from the compatibility trouble shooter, security and such things and running the program as administrator.
I don't have a Nivida graphics card, I have a Intel HD Graphics 520 mobile that came with the laptop. It's pretty crap and is what prevents me from playing pretty much anything too graphically demanding.

Those solutions don't work for me. My screen doesn't go completely black it just goes really small before crashing back to the desktop or steam. Doesn't require me to go into task manager it just doesn't launch period. I checked. Thanks anyways.
I have the same integrated graphic card in my laptop, and the same happened to me - game would not get to main menu, it would just show the small windowed game logo, and then it would get back to windows.
When I updated my graphic card everything worked perfectly.
