CAN'T PLAY MULTIPLAYER

Hi guys, till yesterday i was playning normaly, till today! when i press join game it stops running and it comes up with a window saying: the app 'CoD2MP_s.exe' stop working! and it forces me to close the program! what should i do?

Hi in May 2018 this is my Solution on Windows 10:

- install COD2 in ANOTHER location as default (not "Windows/programms") e.g. "C:\sp\CallOfDuty2"
- aplly patch 1.3
right click CoD2MP_s.exe -> "Settings"/("Eigenschaften" in german)
choose:
- compability mode winxp2
- run as admin
- not fullscreen optimised

- Navigate to your profiles directory (ie C:\Program Files\Activision\Call Of Duty 2\main\players\<playername> ) and open the "config.cfg" file in wordpad.
Find the line that says "seta r_fullscreen" and change the value from 1 to 0. This should set the game to start in a window.

- launch game as admin but not in cod-"fallback-mode" ("gesicherter modus" in german)
- when game screen goes black press ESC and click mouse several times
- works :-)

- if it still doesnt work:
- try:
- plugin a headset
- goto lower right in win 10, rightclick, change audio device

you propably did a lot of steps to make it working -- the same what i did and it didnt helped
you are missing this one:
contol panel -> programs -> programs and functions -> (on the left menu, with admin icon) enable or disable windows functions -> legacy functions (or smth legacy) -> enable it!

it helped me, but before i did that i did also:
1. copy Steam.dll and Steam2.dll to CoD2 directory
2. open single player, change settings like resoluton to 1920x1080 etc...
3. go to main/players/player-name, copy config and save it as config_mp
4. set to run with Windows XP service pack 3 backward compability (click on icon, properties) and also check run as admin -- not sure if that should be enabled
5. put any jack into mic jack on my motherboard -- VERY IMPORTANT -- when i remove it, the game does not work -- black screen again

and now it works with steam and without it on windows 10 !

In the nearest future i want to create my own server, because there is a lot of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ones, that have a lot of modes and so on, which makes the game ugly!

It is really annoying trying to enter into the multiplayer mode. Now i am searching and trying all the possibilities, but unfortunately still no luck for now. :)
