How to jump on breaking blocks?

I can't get across an area because I have to jump on a block that crumbles when I touch it, sending me to the spike pit below. I remember early on a tool-tip that sayed to hold jump and you'll bound across them, but this doesn't seem to work either. Help.

Don't remember if you can do this without double jump boots. Try to jump in the brick, you will jump again without pressing any button, and when you reach a good height, jump again.

Using a light armor like Tunic or Dream Armor also helps...

You don't need double jump to bounce on breaking blocks. The bounce only works on blocks that instantly break when you touch them, and not blocks that break after a second or so.
