Warp Points and Maps

When do Warp Points activate? I've made it fairly far and I've missed a few paths (for example, I haven't opened the clock tower) and if there's good items down those paths they may be obsolete by the time I warp back and get them. I've been thinking of restarting the game actually to get those extra paths.

Also, does the player ever recieve a way of viewing the game's entire map? If I do, then I won't worry too much about skipped paths but if I don't I'd prefer to 100% every area before moving to the next.

I'm not sure how far i am but i just got the warp stone a while ago. It's after a few areas, haven't gone back to check the missed paths yet, though.

There is no map view. Warp points activate once you aquire an item to use them.

Yeah I got the warp stone now and I've gone back to find a worse armor and a boss with no HP Heart benefits. Eh. The area progression is linear enough to not need a map for a 100% run so I'm okay with that.

I wouldn't bother warping back until you get the next relic after the warp acivation (sorry for being vague don't want to spoil anything).
