Cannot start game

I'm getting an error when I try to run the game: "Cannot load Joystick2.mfx. This object might need an external program or library not yet installed.". Has anyone else been having this issue, and is there a fix?

The game doesn't start here either. I tried with two different controllers.

I attempted to reinstall it and start it with no controllers, but it did not work.

Has anyone tried contacting Nicalis with the issue? For some reason when I go to their contact page I can't type anything in.

Yep, same problem here! Can't even start it to get the cards!

I was able to get the cards by just leaving the error message up, for what it's worth.

If the demo is anything to go by, it's excellent. Weirdly the demo still works for me, just not the actual game. Of course, it's been a few years since it came out, so I guess it's not surprise it would have different requirements.

Hey guys, it's Matt Kap, the developer! This issue hasn't been common, but here is a support thread at the clickteam forums:

That should help you remedy that error! Unfortunately with PC games everyone's system is different, so it's hard to predict this stuff. In any case, I hope the DLLs there solve your problem :). Thanks!

When I click the DLLs link on that page, it says "page not found".

In the next update I will include an installer fix with the correct DLLs... but for now you can go here and get the xinput installer:

Anyone having this problem should also try to update their directx first, I know sometimes that's a cause for this issue. Thanks!

I've updated directX and downloaded that file. The system32 folder already had a file with that name, so I replaced it, but I'm still having the same problem. I might have to wait for the update, I suppose.

I spent about two hours trying to get this game to work today; unfortunately, I couldn't do so, but I do hope this update comes out soon.

I got this game to work by going to C:\ProgramFiles\Steam\SteamApps\common\castleinthedarkness and deleting xinput1_3.dll

Hope this works for you guys too. Let me know pls
