Ridiculous characters

Who the hell wrote these characters and their dialogue. A revolutionary waiter who serves only fellow revolutionaries. One would think it's post WW2 behind the iron curtain, not modern day Paris. Then a few scenels later, again we have a friggin gardener who's into metaphysics. Riiiight...
Perhaps it's meant to be funny but it comes of as stupid and annoying.

I've only played one half of it but I too thought some of it was alittle .. well crazy .. The story sofar was alright. I rate bs series like this: bs1 is 9/10 and bs 2 is 8/10 . bs 5 is 7/10. Can't bother with 3 or 4 yet.

This game is like the "newer" episodes of "The Simpsons". Dumbed down in all ways (Characters, Dialogues, Humour). Broken Sword 1 and 2 (original! not the "censored" Director's Cut-Versions for kids) are masterpieces and one of these adventures fitting for old and young players (like the old Simpsons episodes). 5 tries to be funny (emabarrassing btw!), has old characters who developed to clowns and the riddles are lame (played till a gamebreaking bug in a church later in episode2, when the game came out). Even the story isn't thrilling. I was a big fan of Broken Sword, but with this title, i lost my faith in Revolution Software able to create some good adventures in the future.

I enjoyed the Fanmade game "Broken Sword 2.5" way more than this. But i have still to finish 5 yet. Maybe my opinion of this game will change - honestly, i doubt it.

It's always been a bit cartoony playing on stereotypes and prejudice, that's just the kind of game it is. If you don't like it, don't play it. I think it's kind of cute in a way, but sometimes it's a bit.. erm, taxing.

"Point & Click Adventure" is my favourite genre, i played the last 15 years a lot of them. Broken Sword 5 is one of those Adventures, i would never pay more than 5€ for - "sadly" i was such a big fan of Broken Sword 1 & 2 (original-versions, not director's cut-versions) that i pre-ordered Broken Sword 5. Something i never do, but trailers looked too good ("back to the roots"). Couldn't see story, character and the humour are badly written - like the "newer" seasons of "The Simpsons".

If you enjoy "The Simpsons" newer episodes still, you can go for BS5. If you want a quality game with a thrilling story, authentic characters and the humour you know from 1 & 2 -> don't buy or wait for a 5€-Offer.

I've really enjoyed BS5 for the first episode. Have yet to play the 2nd. I don't know what the Simpsons have to do with BS5 - I dislike new and old Simpsons, and I really like BS5. They don't really relate to one another.

The relation lies in the change of both (Humour, characters...).
Both dumbed down big time, they aren't what they were in the past. They are now clownish.

My advice to "G The Generous" was, if he/she has no problems with this kind of "quality" he/she should buy it and have fun. If he/she has a problem with it, he/she should wait for a big discount or doesn't consider to play it.

I took The Simpsons to compare, because almost every person on this planet know them.

finished bs5 a few minutes ago and it was quite a torture. The "old" bs titles were fantastic, but this new attempt was more or less waisted time. Just happy that i bought it in steam sale..

Yes, because the gangsters, road worker and the nobel price winner from BS1, or why not the woman in BS2 who had her male emplyees wear no pants. Totally more sensible and less dmb then BS5. It's clearly a subjective but I say there is an equal ammount of silly characters in the old ones and this.

no, of course its not bad. But you know, 1 and 2 re incredible good.
But dont ask me. I love 1 and 2 and like every part.

I'm currently playing through all the old Broken Sword games again before starting 5, and I must say that I find Broken Sword 2 to be way overrated. First one is still a fantastic game but the second one is kinda terrible. Story just ain't nearly as good as the first or third game and most of the puzzles are really poor. Third game has bad controls and too many stupid box puzzles, but is overall a much stronger game.
