[Solved] Game feels like it's running too fast
Does anyone else experience this? I just started a new game and felt like she's running at 2x or 3x the speed. I just clicked W and she almost reached the first jump. I've played for a couple of jumps and it feels like the whole game is running at 2x the speed.

Is this what you felt when you started this game? Or do I need to tweak some settings? I've tried setting everything at the lowest because although the game was running fast the mouse and movement controls felt like they were lagging a bit.

The gameplay in cloudbuitl is very fast and twitchy, so I doubt there's something wrong with your setup. If you're not sure, try comparing the speed you experience in the game to that shown in a youtube video, for example.

I remember the first time I tried Super Smash Bros Melee on Game Cube when I only had been playing the N64 version before. It felt exactly like that, it felt like everything was just too fast and uncontrollable. I felt like I could barely react to my character jumping, none the less get the time to control it and do a double jump. I was not a fan initially, but after sticking with it for a while I got used to it, and it’s now my preferred speed of the game. Going back to the N64 version feels like slow motion and like fighting under water.

I think it might be the same here. To us, who are used to the speed, it feels very natural, but it is totally possible that it feels too fast in the beginning. Technically, the game should run exactly the same and in the same speed no matter what hardware or FPS you get. But as the speed is as great as it is, you should aim for a minimum of 60fps for a pleasant game experience in my opinion.

If you still think there is something wrong, please record a small video and we can try to help.

Best of luck!

You both suggested that it's the natural sespeed of the game and initially it feels like it's running fast. That's cool. I'll try playing for more time and see if I get adjusted to it. Will reply back in case of problems. Thanks a lot for replying.

Lets figure this out. This game has a timer - a real-time clock that should run just as fast as a clock on your PC, smartphone or even your grandmother's favorite pendulum clock (this may depend whether you have one or not). So in theory you can grab any clock in your house and verify that timer is Cloudbuilt runs with the same speed. If it just happens that it doesn't, then it's a bug. But most likely it will work just as expected. This leaves use with two choices:
either nothing is wrong, or you have a strange glitch that allows you to run faster then the rest of the players and you definitely should try beating as much levels as you can while it lasts.

That's okay. This problem got solved.

Basically I tried playing for a while and found that I got stuck in the tutorial wall-run-jump sequence. I tried several times but failed. Finally I used Cheat Engine to speed hack and reduced the game speed to 0.5. However, I still get a D in all the levels so I guess the hack doesn't work perfectly. But as long as it works I'm able to play the game and get some fun out of it.

Kind of beating the purpose of the game...

As long as you don't use that cheat engine to get on to any high rankings in the leader boards... would not be fair against others. We try to keep all the leader boards legit to the extent possible.

Also, if you just want to practice with lower speed, it's possible without cheating in the level editor. But playing in slow motion all the time will probably make you dependent on it as well. But, if that's the only want to have fun for you there is not much helping it. But if you could not manage the first wallrun without it I'm a little curious... what went wrong, and what control method are you using? If I may ask?

Sorry to go out of topic here, but Gafgar I just want to point out that I've never seen before such an involved developer even after the dust has long settled down post game / dlc release.

Mad props, truly exceptional. A lot of devs can learn a thing or two from you

I disagree. A game is for having fun and forgetting your real world. As long as you're able to enjoy it

I haven't been around much in Steam but horheristo might be right. It's definitely a rare experience for me to get a reply from a Dev but didn't realize it might be rare for others also. Thanks a lot for being in this forum and taking the time to find out how we're feeling about it. :)

Okay coming back to the main post.

Higher rankings. I have no intention of seeing my name anywhere on the leaderboards. I like the gameplay above all else (parkour). I didn't even notice the leaderboards until I saw a post yesterday. Anyway I'm completing levels in 3-5 minutes (maybe I suck as a gamer but I'm still having fun and adrenaline XD) so there's no way I'm making it to the ranks anywhere. Thank god the levels still get unlocked even with a D else I would have been hopelessly stuck.

The jump. The wall jump is quite difficult for me to make. There are many areas where the walls start right from the corner of the floor. Meaning that the floor ends and at the exact point where one corner lies a floor starts. And the transition from floor to wall doesn't happen for me. Instead my character hangs from the edge.___(1)____ I need to run to the exact corner spot. A little bit away from the wall will fail the transition.

I would like to compare this transition with two more parkour games that I've played. There's prince of persia series and Lemma. In both of these games we have the same situation where the wall starts from the corner of the floor. However, when the character is "almost" near the wall he can still transition into doing a wall run. It's as if the first step he takes moves him closer to the wall in the air. (You need to press W + A. So your character is glued to the wall).

____(2)____ The second thing that's making the wall runs difficult for me is the jump after wall run is initiated. I find it tricky to control the direction immediately after the wall-run-jump. I wish the character would jump a little bit higher so that I get a second more to toggle her momentum to the opposite wall or wherever she needs to go. That one second is critical I feel because she doesn't jump with added momentum for anywhere. So I need to move her through by pressing the direction controls.

Lastly, above all it's still an enjoyable game. I just hope there's no levels later on with lots of wall jumps. XD But I'm able to immerse myself in the game. Thanks a lot for creating it! It's truly an "indie" game - like Braid, Don't Starve and others. Unique and innovative.

Edit: Corrected sentence construction.

1 - I haven't played any of the games you mentioned, but for wall jumps, Demi won't automatically run up a wall when you're near it. All you need to do to start running on a wall is to jump at it. If you run straight off a ledge without any other input, Demi will hang from the ledge, so just remember to jump when you're nearing a wall you want to run on.

2 - It sounds like you're mostly talking about jumping between walls? If you're having trouble getting her to go in the direction you're intending, you can stick to the wall by holding the spacebar (if you're using kb+m). It stops your momentum, and you'll start sliding down eventually, but it at least gives you a couple extra seconds to measure up your next move. Demi moves where the crosshair is pointing, so just be careful where you're aiming. Also, don't forget you can press jump again for a boost while in the air for a bit more height or distance.

If you haven't tried it yet, there's a practice level that's a nice, big, enemy/obstacle free area that you can run around in to practice and get used to the mechanics. I definitely recommend running around there.

I'm not sure if any of this quite addresses your points, but hopefully something in there helps! If not, would you be able to post a video? It makes it easier to help out if we can see what you're doing.

Sorry, I don't have much time right now >.<... so I can't write any longer reply. But thanks for the comments ^^ I'm glad if I can help out, an it's fun to be part of the community a little :) to the extent I'm able to.

I also just wanted to link to and video I made before, covering the basic mechanics in depth. It's completely optional, and the start is a bit slow.. but feel free to check it out if you want to understand how the controls and the physics of the game works a little more in depth.

The part when you must learn how to L-cancel and wave dash as if the game wasnt fast enough.

I participated in a melee tournament and i got crushed by asiatic players. I still managed to beat them after for the exebition games, but i got lucky.

I main ganon dorf because he is the slowest character. he makes the game's speed feel normal. It's all about prediction with him, less about everything else.
