Tips for pests? What character should I use?

Can't seem to beat em, gotten to them a good number of times now and it feels like I'm just doing no damage, I've tried using fire a lot but it doesn't seem to help much (besides when I was the wizard and the fire whip spell did a lot of damage to the moth in phase one, standing still for that long in phase two though wasn't great) I almost beat him last game with wylder, but it took a very long time to do significant damage, and sadly my teammates kept going down. I don't really blame them, it took me a while to learn how to effectively avoid damage, shields help a lot and run to the sides when he charges, so what do I need to do for damage? The highest level I seem to get to is 13, but I don't imagine 15 is going to have me doing loads more.
