ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN

ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN

Nightreign will NOT support ultrawide (according to FromSoftware player support)
Hi all, just wanted to share my disappointment. I contacted FromSoft support, because I'm impatient and wanted to know if Nightreign will support ultrawide resolutions on PC: it won't.

The email only mentioned the Japanese version, but I doubt other regions will be different.

While this isn't surprising to some, I still had hope, since Armored Core 6 (running on the same engine) was their first game with official 120fps mode and ultrawide resolutions available. Yes, they're different games, but all the underlying game systems now properly support these features, and there's no real reason why their future titles shouldn't. AC6 even has PvP, so it's not about competitive balance.

The only options are either to play with black bars (which will cause uneven screen wear on OLED monitors, which I have), or use mods -- meaning offline solo play in a coop-oriented game lmfao. Honestly, we probably have a better chance at a seamless coop mod at this point...

I played the game during the network test and I loved it a lot, I even preordered, but this stings a little.
I will wait and see when the game releases of course, but I might have to leave my first negative review. They need to get their ♥♥♥♥ together (from a technical standpoint), it's literally 2025. Anyways, rant over. LOL

It's very clear that most games do not support ultrawide. Why do people keep buying these huge screens knowing very well games won't be running on them? And then to top it all off, they demand that developers support their obscure screen sizes because its "Insert current year".
Well I have news for you, it's 2025 and you still haven't figured out that ultrawide support is not always supported.
Maybe just buy a normal screen size with a high resolution and stop wasting money on a huge screen with little game support.

Personally, I think these so called 'Network Tests' and other 'Pre-Order Beta' events are just a way to get customers to lock-in their pre-release purchase.

No one can legitimately complain about bugs or missing features because the game is not 'released' yet. But they also cannot get a refund when it is released as they have typically 'played' for over 2 hours.

Blatantly incorrect

Nobody ever has purchased a ultrawide thinking it would be supported by every game out there, those people are just plain stupid. The reason I agree with the fact that it's stupid on this title is that for this particular game, the game is actually rendered in ultrawide, and they then add an artificial black bar on top of the graphics (at least that's how it works on base Elden Ring).

Also, just to correct you - most titles today support ultrawide, hell even super-ultrawide (32:9). I play LoL, CS2 and all of my 30+ currently installed steam titles on super ultrawide, and the only game that doesn't currently support it is Marvel Rivals, and I haven't been mad about it for a second since it's a PvP only game and has no native support from the game engine.

But in the case of Fromsoftware titles - why go the extra mile only to stop players from having this experience, rather than just showing the full rendered game that actually happens behind the artificial black bars? Some devs can motivate it on PvP titles, but for a game like this it makes absolutely no sense. Don't you agree? The same could be applied to anything - like what would the community feel if they only allowed Nvidia cards to run the game (even if it works great on AMD cards using mods?), with no other explanation other than "we decided to only support nvidia GPU's since it's the biggest group of people"? Would you respect that decision too? I really don't think so.

99% of new games, even from small developers supports all resolutions.
UW is not mandatory.
But then supporting UW would make more people happy. The cons? I don’t know.

Even FPS have UW so you can’t use excuses like “Its unfair to 16:9 players” and run away.
I guess the dev or some stone age peeps on top just doesn’t like UW.

Worse? Sony wants peep to stick to PS5 version (most ppl use a TV, 16:9 to ply PS5 games) so they signed some sort of contract to prevent UW from happening. Thats my plain assumption.

just buy a normal monitor bro dont expect developers to accomodate 1% of the playerbase
kotn3l May 14 @ 3:20am
Yeah, surely ignoring a small percentage of the player base is the solution to everything, but that still means thousands of players, if not more.
This mindset is exactly why we're at games requiring a literal NASA PC to run, with no optimisations in sight -- let's support the strongest hardware only at this point, right? Just buy a 5090 "bro"

If you're against ultrawide because it's only 1% of gamers, then I assume you also wouldn't mind if other features were missing, like key remapping, or even 4K resolution support. Or let's lock games to 30fps, noone cares that you have a 60hz monitor and capable hardware.
It’s almost like accommodating different setups is… normal in game development? Especially PC ports? Where not everyone has the same hardware?

And for FromSoft, this isn't even about adding support, cause the engine literally supports it and it just works. It's about adding one menu option that disables the black bars, which what most mods remove. Hell, you don't even need a menu option, just don't put black bars on the side for unconventional resolutions lmao. I don't even mind the UI not fully utilising the extra spaces on the side..

I am also a super ultra wide user (32:9) and the vast majority of of games in my library support it. I am also very disappointed that Fromsoft will not support it, again, but at least I know I’ll be able to use a mod to get it to work. I have absolutely no interest in playing this in online multiplayer, so being forced to play it offline in order for it to work doesn’t bother me at all.

Welp...too bad. Not going to buy it just for this reason. Exercising my rights as a consumer.

Ultrawide looks like garbage and completely and utterly sucks for gaming, so nobody cares.

I still have hope, who knows, maybe there's the slightest chance that the Fromsoft support person was misinformed or something -- the only thing left to do is wait and see on release day.

It would be best if don't indirectly tell people you're ignorant, poor, and insecure. I can expand how I inferred this from your message if you'd like.
